🧵Happy Bloomsday 👒

Congratulations to the participants in our Edwardian walking skirt sewing course who showcased their work today at the James Joyce Tower!

Inspired by Ulysses, early 20th-century Dublin, and dressmaking traditions, the course was rooted in fashion heritage, women’s creativity and self-sufficiency.

Led by Barbara Connolly of Green Thread, with funding from Creative Ireland, participants were guided through the process of cutting, fitting, and sewing their own fully lined, made-to-measure Edwardian skirts. Each garment was carefully crafted to reflect the style and spirit of the period, while developing participants’ practical sewing skills.

🌿 Join DLR Biodiversity for an amazing discovery of our insects and our pollinators at Shanganagh meadows🐞

This all-ages workshop will begin with a story, song or game to celebrate the local invertebrates of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown. We will then explore habitats using various sampling techniques and identification charts to find out what beetles, bugs, butterflies, and other critters are active here at this time of year. Join DLR and Nessa Darcy - a Creative Entomologist with a mission to reintroduce humans to their natural habitat through colourful encounters with insects: bug-centric learning experiences, socially engaged art, and surveys for conservation.

❗ Wear long trousers and closed shoes to avoid nettle stings, sunscreen or raingear as appropriate, and stay hydrated.
❗ All children must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
🚫No dogs are allowed at this event.

📅 Sunday, 24 May, 11am–12pm
