have just released a new public transport consultation. This is a huge opportunity to influence how the city is laid out, and what the subsequent pedestrianised spaces will include. Skateboarding is proving a valuable tool for transport, socialising and public space in many parts of the world, and there is now a chance to have your say on the matter. Please take five minutes to fill out the survey, include your opinions on skateboardings place in the city. Link in our bio

Today is the final day for submissions. Here are some key points we beleive should be addressed in the overall scheme, please feel free to use them in your form. 1.Unacceptable reduction of area for children to learn to safely cycle, skate or scoot by approximately 800m2: from 1200m2 to just 400m2 and to narrow angular paths.
2. Mass removal, and restriction, of one of Ireland's most culturally significant skate-spots contravenes Dublin City Council's Play Strategy 2022-2027, which seeks greater "opportunities for street play i.e. skipping, hopscotch, cycling, skating" as well as "new and upgrading of existing play facilities".
3. The proposed removal of the segregated cycle lanes contravenes the National Sustainable Mobility Policy, the Climate Action Plan, Safe Routes to Schools and the Dublin City Development Plan 2016-2022 (Promoting Active Travel).
4. The proposed planting of over 10 mature specimen trees (trees seemingly in excess of 25 years of age when planted) is welcome.
5. The involvement of Architect professionals is requested, and done so in accordance with best procurement practice: that of an open ideas competition.

One day left to fill out the consultation. Cyclists have objected to the pedestrianisation plans at the last minute, which risks our place in the new design. Please fill out the consultation and reference the important of a shared space, that is accepting of multi use activity. For the sake of a 30 meter run of cycle track we may lose all the hard work put in over the last number of years. Link in our bio!

After months of going back and forth with councillors, planners, locals and architects, we are nearing in on the final stages of portobello’s new design. There is a new online consultation taking place, and the overwhelming support of the previous one ensured skateboardings place in the new space couldn’t be ignored. However, this new consultation will solidify our right in the space if we can garner enough numbers and attention to the cause. So please, take two minutes out of your day and have your say on what you think of the new designs, but make sure to include your thoughts about skateboarding and its importance in the new designs.

By taking part in the consultation, you're not just signing your name, you're sending a powerful message to local authorities and decision-makers that a skateboarding space is important to our community. Every signature counts, so please share the petition with your friends, family, and anyone who believes in the power of skateboarding to bring people together. The consultation is only available for six days to fill out!

Early concept plans for the new space at portobello. Focus on skating will likely be shifted to the outside of portobello house ( the three stair at the columns ) so the noise level is reduced for residents and hotel users. More detail will be provided later as well as input on ledge materials, heights etc so long as the council are still engaging with us, what are your thoughts?

Attention dublin skaters...time to lend support to this....
Sinn Fein Councillor Danirel Ceitinn has agreed to raise the following 'Motion' at the next council meeting

Motion-That this Area Committee agrees to consider and consult with residents and interested parties on the installation of a skate park in Belgrave square

If the motion is passed the Parks Department (Les Moore) will have to consult with 'interested parties' i.e. skateboarders, not just the local residents (some of whom are supportive, some not)

If anyone has any ideas regarding actions to support it - go for it!

e.g. you might encourage skaters to contact the other local politicians (below) to ask for their support in that motion.

All the best,

Doug

Guys, you are loved and admired by many for your tricks and falls. I love how skaters just get back on that board. It is just cool. What is not cool is watching a much loved family member or friend drown as their lungs fill with fluid as they fight pneumonia, which is the endgame of Covid.19. Please leave the skateparks alone for a while. Also, legislation has just passed today in Dail Eireann that empowers authorities to fine and detain people gathered for house parties and other get togethers, so there is that. You may never meet the person whose life you save, but karma and all that ..... ### sandy
