“I’m actually not a tech person” - does that matter for educators?

Derek from the Fountain Resource Group spoke at Creative Technology Week 2026 about the impact of working with Kinia. He shared how young people developed real, practical skills through their projects, and highlighted just how accessible the Kinia courses and concepts are - even for someone who considers themselves “non-tech”.

Derek, a nominee for Educator of the Year, has seen this work translate into powerful youth projects. One standout project came from Lyndsey, who designed solar-powered traffic lights alongside four houses inspired by memories of her grandparents, a very personal and creative use of new skills.

Thanks to Derek, and to all educators who think they’re “not a tech person” - you are exactly who the work of Kinia is for.

Creative Technology Week was made possible thanks to the generous support of Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Department of Education and Youth, Raspberry Pi Foundation, Research Ireland, Rethink Ireland, NTT DATA Europe & Latam, ESB, Sonalake & Google.

Was there ever any doubt? đŸŽïž

It was fantastic to get some pre-race insights from Kyle and Nathan from the Handbrakers of Cherry Orchard at the recent H2 Grand Prix Pro National Final in Dublin.

There were definitely nerves in the build-up, but never any doubt within the team. They spoke about working closely together, facing challenges along the way, and overcoming them as a unit.

The Handbrakers will be hoping to deliver another strong performance in Switzerland at the H2 Grand Prix Pro World Finals, taking place from June 29 to July 3.

Go n-éirí libh!

The Handbrakers now turn their attention to the H2GP Pro World Finals in Switzerland 🇹🇭

What an achievement built on serious hard work, commitment, and belief. From countless hours of designing, testing, refining, and problem-solving, they’ve shown exactly what dedication looks like when you back young people and give them space to thrive.

Now, they have the opportunity to go abroad, represent Ireland, their youth club, and their community on a world stage. It’s a huge moment for the team and for everyone who has supported them along the way.

There’s real pride in what they have already achieved, and even more excitement for what’s ahead this summer. We can’t wait to see them fly the flag, compete with the best, and bring some Cherry Orchard spirit to Switzerland.

We’ll be cheering them on every step of the way! đŸ•č

Cross-curricular learning in action: where coding, creativity, and sport collide. ⚜

In this project submitted by St Mary’s Academy CBS Carlow , First Year students combined their interests in football, wrestling and coding, to create Robo Football.

Using Scratch, they developed the coding skills needed to programme robots to compete against each other, while also applying practical design thinking to create the pitch using the school’s technology room, workbenches, and timber boundaries.

This project highlights the power of cross-curricular learning - blending Physical Education, Digital Technology, Engineering, and Creative Thinking. It also showcases strong collaboration, problem-solving, and technical precision throughout the creative process.

A brilliant example of young people turning learning into something active, fun, and engaging. Maith sibh!

This National Volunteering Week, we’re taking a moment to recognise the people who give their time, energy, and care to support young people across our programmes.

This year’s National Volunteering Week theme, “From Every Corner, For Every Cause”, celebrates the many different ways people volunteer in their communities, and we see that impact every day through our fantastic volunteers.

From supporting events, to volunteering as a Reading Buddy, to partnering with us through corporate volunteering initiatives, every contribution helps create meaningful opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and thrive.

Our Reading Buddy volunteers spend just 60 minutes a week reading with a child, helping to build confidence, connection, and a positive relationship with reading that can last a lifetime.

We’re also hugely grateful to our corporate partners including Yondr, Mason Hayes & Curran, and SMBC, whose teams continue to show up with enthusiasm, generosity, and genuine commitment to youth-centred impact.

To all of our volunteers - go raibh mĂle maith agaibh. Your support makes a real difference.

They didn’t just learn about AI - they taught it! 💡

At Creative Technology Week 2026, one project stood out not only for its innovation, but for the confidence, collaboration, and leadership behind it. The AI Award went to Peer Powered AI from and it’s easy to see why.

Led by students Niamh Shanley and Lauren Deasey, this project reimagined what AI education can look like in schools. For the first time, an AI module was rolled out to all first-year students.

Educators first engaged in courses on the Kinia Academy, before a group of Transition Year students stepped iup and became educators themselves.

Over two planning sessions with Ms Uí Dhróma, the TY group designed a five-workshop series, built a dedicated Google Classroom resource hub, and then took a leap that many adults would hesitate to take - they stepped into Mr Lloyd’s First Year IT class and delivered the module directly.

This is what happens when we trust young people with real responsibility. Young people are not passive recipients of knowledge, but rather active facilitators of learning.

The team are already envisioning a one-hour introductory workshop for incoming first years every September which is an impressive a legacy of peer-led learning in motion.

A huge congratulations to all who were involved in this fantastic project. Maith sibh!
