Много специално преживяване е да присъстваш на разказ за историята на България в сърцето на Дъблин! Днес в Trinity College Dublin д-р Божил Христов изнесе публична лекция, посветена на 150-та годишнина от избухването на Априлското въстание.
Темата „Българското Априлско въстание от 1876 г. и Ирландското Великденско въстание от 1916 г. – паралели и контрасти повече от сто (и петдесет) години по-късно“ събра българи и ирландци, студенти, преподаватели и приятели на България, за да си припомнят две от най-значимите събития в историята на България и Ирландия.
По време на лекцията бяха разгледани историческите и социалните предпоставки за двете въстания, техните последици за националната идентичност и държавността, както и по-слабо изследвани аспекти – включително ролята на жените в тези бурни събития.
Българската и ирландската история остават сравнително слабо познати една за друга, тъй като рядко се изучават в образователните програми в другата държава. Днешната среща допринесе за преодоляване на тази празнина и за по-доброто взаимно опознаване между двата народа.

It is a truly special experience to attend a lecture on Bulgarian history in the heart of Dublin! Today at Trinity College Dublin Dr. Bozhil Hristov delivered a public lecture dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.
The lecture, entitled “The Bulgarian April Uprising of 1876 and Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising – parallels and contrasts more than a hundred (and fifty) years later”, brought together Bulgarians and Irish people, students, academics, and friends of Bulgaria to reflect on two of the most significant events in the histories of Bulgaria and Ireland.
During the lecture, the historical and social background of the two uprisings, their impact on national identity and statehood, as well as less explored aspects — including the role of women in these turbulent events — were discussed.
Bulgarian and Irish history remain relatively little known to one another, as they are rarely studied in depth within the educational programmes of the other country. Today’s event helped to bridge this gap and contributed to a better mutual understanding between the two peoples.
We would like to thank Dr. Bozhil Hristov for the initiative, as well as the organisers from the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies for making this event possible.
