We had full house for last night's Irish-Polish celebration of NOCTURNE in the Royal Irish Academy of Music!
Pianist Tamara Niekludow beautifully performed classical works by John Field - Irish composer and the father of the nocturne - and contemporary responses by Paweł Łukaszewski - renowned 🇵🇱 composer.
The concert was the the world premiere of Paweł Łukaszewski's 'Four Seasons -Nocturnes after Field' which he composed specially for this 'Field::Nokturn::Chopin' project.

it was wonderful to see the Polish and the Irish culture intertwine in this unique annual event, whose 3rd iteration is due next year!

We thank Royal Irish Academy of Music for hosting the event!

Bloomsday - this unique day when time goes backward in Dublin. One can meet people dressed in the style of Joyce’s epoch. Last year, we joined Irish friends for a reading of Ulysses at the James Joyce Tower; this year, we joined them for a breakfast in Belvedere College! Happy Bloomsday!

Oil prices may have risen because of the Iran conflict, but they will not save Russia's economy. Windfall gains were significantly offset by a stronger currency and subsidy payments to oil companies and refiners.

In the first four months of 2026, Russia's budget deficit reached 5.9 trillion roubles, already far above the 3.8 trillion planned for the whole year. More than 200,000 businesses have closed since January. Interest rates remain high. Corporate debt has nearly doubled since the full-scale invasion. Labour shortages are persistent, taxes are rising, and domestic demand is falling.

EU sanctions, now 20 packages in force, continue to restrict Russia's access to technology, finance, logistics and energy markets, imposing long-term structural costs. Higher oil prices give Russia short-term breathing space. They do not fix the structural damage. The pressure continues.

When young people from Poland and Ukraine come together through UNICEF’s UPSHIFT programme, they do more than learn new skills. They share ideas, solve local challenges and build friendships that help them feel part of one community. 🫶
💬 “For us, it is more than just a skills workshop – it has become a bridge between cultures,” shares Teresa, a music teacher and UPSHIFT mentor.
For teenagers from Ukraine, moments like these can bring something deeply important: a sense of safety, kindness and the reassuring feeling that they are welcome in Poland. 🤝 💙💛
