The Supreme Court of Ireland has published its Annual Report for the year 2025, providing an overview of the Court's work both inside and outside the courtroom.
Key highlights from 2025 include:
• 170 applications for leave to appeal resolved
• 46 applications granted leave (27%)
• 42 full appeals resolved
• 80 judgments delivered
• 3 references made to the Court of Justice of the European Union for a preliminary ruling
The report also showcases the Court's commitment to public engagement and outreach activities.
Among the notable events during the year were:
▶️ The Supreme Court's first sitting on the North Western Circuit in Letterkenny, alongside a programme of outreach with local schools and communities.
▶️ The election of Chief Justice Donal O'Donnell as President of the Network of Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union.
▶️ The launch of a pilot project to record and broadcast certain Supreme Court proceedings, supporting open justice, public understanding and educational use.
The Annual Report provides further insight into the Court's judgments, educational initiatives and engagement with judicial networks at home and abroad.
