The French Embassy in Ireland is hiring a visa officer on a 6-month contract beginning Monday, October 19, 2026.

Under the authority of the Head of the Diplomatic Mission and the Head of the Consular Section, the officer will perform administrative duties within the visa office of the Embassy of France in Ireland, as listed in the Job Description.

To mark the end of the first month of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the High Commissioner for Children Sarah El Haïry attended the High-Level Conference on the Protection of Children in Challenging Settings.

This was an opportunity for the High Commissioner to reiterate that France supports the establishment of a strong European framework to protect children online: “When dealing with global platforms, protecting children can no longer be solely a national responsibility. It must become a European one.”

In Dublin, Sarah El-Haïry called for the launch of a new European initiative to establish a genuine “Child Safe by Design” approach, under which digital platforms and online services would be designed from the outset to safeguard the best interests of the child.

Two weeks ago, France passed a law banning social media for children under 15—a measure that will take effect on September 1, coinciding with the start of the school year.

Thank you to the High Commissioner and her team for coming to Dublin, and to the Presidency for this invitation before August, which marks a summer break in the calendar.

The French Embassy in Ireland, in partnership with Post-Primary Languages Ireland (PPLI) / Languages Connect, is offering language upskilling grants for a one-week immersion programme in France. ⭐

📚 French classes, accommodation (half-board) and cultural activities included

👩‍🏫 Who can apply?

✔ Primary school teachers in Ireland

This programme is designed to support teachers in developing their linguistic confidence and classroom practice, in line with the redeveloped Primary Language Curriculum.

It is with deep sadness that our Embassy has learnt of the tragic death of Garda Sergeant Andrew O’Riordan, of Limerick’s Mayorstone Garda Station.

A true friend of France, Sgt O’Riordan provided regular and valuable assistance to our Honorary Consul in Limerick in relation to many cases involving French nationals. A fluent French speaker, Sgt O’Riordan spent an entire academic year from September 2022 training alongside junior and senior French police officers at the ENSP - Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Police at Cannes Écluse and Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d’Or, an experience he greatly enjoyed and of which he kept fond memories. In September and October 2023, he was deployed in Paris in support of French police during the Rugby World Cup where he once again distinguished himself by his professionalism and friendliness. He and his wife joined our Embassy’s team in Dublin only a few weeks ago to celebrate Bastille Day. All those who knew him will remember his helpfulness, kindness, humor and professionalism.

Ambassador Céline Place, Honorary Consul Dr Loïc Guyon and Home affairs and Police attaché Michael Sorre extend their sincere condolences to Andrew’s wife Stéphanie, their five children, their relatives and friends and his colleagues of An Garda Síochána.

Minister Delegate of the Interior, Marie-Pierre Vedrenne, was in Dublin last week to attend the Home Affairs Council - which was the starting point of informal councils on Home Affairs and Justice under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Under the Presidence of Minister of Justice Jim O'Callaghan TD, European Ministers for Home Affairs had a first session on the EU role and associated coordination with third parties against organized crime ; Ministers also met for two others sessions related to migration about visa policy and coordination with the third countries.

The ministers also met for a visit of Dublin port in the framework of the European port alliance to discuss public-private partnership and fight against corruption and trafficking.

The Minister also had a bilateral meeting with Gábor Pósfai, Minister of Interior of Hungary.

Out of working sessions and bilateral meetings, the Embassy took the opportunity to exchange with the minister to share discussions on relevant internal security issues.
