CW: islamophobia, racism, christian supremacy

Disgusting islamophobic graffiti appeared on the walls of Hansfield Islamic Cultural Centre in my constituency yesterday morning. Thankfully there was a rapid community response and it was removed within hours.

This type of open racism - clearly intended to terrorise the muslim community in the area - has become way more common in the current political climate. It’s been whipped up and normalised by the far-right and these are the real consequences. Disgraceful to see the political establishment also increasingly lean into anti-migrant rhetoric.

Racist attacks and abuse are on the rise leaving many minority communities living in fear and anxiety. This cannot be tolerated. Communities need to stand together against this poisonous racism and islamophobia.

Nothing triggers Aontú and Independent Ireland like LGBTQI+ rights. You could play transphobe bingo listening to them in the debate on my Bill today. Thank you to the campaigners in the Dáil chamber for coming despite having to listen to this crap. As was shown by these parties but also by the government opposing my Bill, society is becoming more hateful, bigoted and reactionary, so it’s all the more important to keep fighting for our rights, equality and dignity not just in the Dáil but in grassroots movements and campaigns too.

Despite the programme for government committing to LGBTQI+ inclusivity, and signing up to a European council on intersex equality they opposed my Bill today for Non-Binary and Intersex Recognition. This is hugely disappointing for LGBTQI+ community, especially non-binary and intersex people who have no legal recognition in this country. There is no doubt that Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are being pushed to the right by the fascistic backlash in society and this makes it all the more important to fight back in grassroots campaigns and movements — pressure is the only thing they know. Thank you to everyone who supported and backed my Bill.

LGBTQI+ groups are all in the Dáil chamber right now listening to the debate on my Bill for Non-Binary and Intersex Recognition. These groups do trojan work for the community every day. Unfortunately the government is opposing my bill showing how right wing they are becoming. Will post clips online soon, but we won’t stop fighting.

Govt is ramming through a deeply unpopular bill that scraps the triple lock and makes it far easier to deploy troops wherever and whenever at Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael’s will. In a year rocked by US imperialism waging war on Iran, Lebanon, continuing to support a genocide on Palestine, kidnapping Nicolas Maduro and his wife and threatening a host of other countries — the govt is indicating that they want to align us even closer to it. In a world that is increasingly militarised, brutal and genocidal we have to reject any attempts at further militarisation. We need a referendum on neutrality & the triple lock because it affects all of us.

Thank you Ruadhán Ó’Críodáin from for supporting my Bill and explaining how important it is for non-binary and intersex people to be recognised in law. There is a very low level of understanding about these communities and it is essential we de-mystify and support this small but incredibly vulnerable percentage of our population. Please support my bill, reaching second stage tomorrow morning.
