Too often, migration is reduced to headlines or misconceptions. But the reality is so much more complex. That is why the 2026 World Migration Report matters.

In this report, IOM brings together the best available data, research and real-world insight to make sense of migration. This report is about clarity in a time of uncertainty, it is about fact over fears and it is about people at the center of every statistic.

Ireland’s health system relies enormously on migrant workers. More than 40% of doctors and 54% of nurses practicing in Ireland trained abroad.

This is a chance to recognize the vital role they play in sustaining healthcare across the country.

Tet was part of the first generation of Filipino nurses recruited in Ireland and has spent over two decades caring for patients. Her story reflects the long-term contribution of migrant workers and illustrates how Ireland’s health system has evolved over time.

“Friends, family, wellbeing and mental health”, that is what Sanctuary Runners Ireland means for people who arrive in the country, often facing hardships and without a support network around them.

With more than 40 groups in Ireland, Sanctuary Runners brings together people seeking asylum, refugees, migrants and local communities through running and shared activity. But their mission goes far beyond that: creating opportunities for integration, building strong communities, making people feel welcome, and helping them settle into life in Ireland.

“The support for the Sanctuary Runners shows how welcoming Ireland actually is, despite the people who shout otherwise. 99% of people in Ireland are welcoming,” shared one participant.

On this International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, IOM Ireland celebrates the power of sport as a universal language that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, reduces isolation, and creates spaces for integration and solidarity.

➡️Rights. Justice. Action. ⬅️ On this International Women's Day, we were reminded that safety is the foundation for everything.

Migrant and diaspora women are strengthening economies, supporting communities through remittances, and leading solutions in countries of origin and destination alike.

And to unlock that potential, migration pathways must be safe, they must be regular, and they must be fair.

Four years since the escalation of the war in Ukraine, over 9 million people in affected areas face the direct impacts of war, with access to electricity, health care, and safe shelter remaining fragile. Sustained humanitarian support is critical.

In Ireland, over 84,000 Ukrainians are now building new lives. Throughout this time, IOM Ireland, alongside partners, has been there to support those affected and continues to provide assistance.

Languages travel with people, and today, on International Mother Tongue Day, IOM celebrates the linguistic richness that migrants bring, and recognizes the challenges of integrating into new local contexts.

In 2025, IOM Ireland's cultural mediators supported international protection applicants in 21 languages, creating a bridge between languages and cultures to make the asylum process more accessible and fair.
