🚨 A Life Saved Through Teamwork, Training & Quick Action 🚨

Recently, a member of the public suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in the community.

Thanks to the outstanding actions of a Community Pharmacist who immediately recognised the emergency, activated the Chain of Survival, commenced CPR and utilised available lifesaving resources, Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC) was achieved before the arrival of emergency ambulance services.

Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service continued advanced patient care, contributing to a highly successful outcome. We are delighted to hear that the patient is recovering well.

This incident highlights the vital role that Community Pharmacy, DFB and NAS play in protecting our communities and, most importantly, demonstrates how early CPR can save lives.

One of our crews responded alongside Dublin Fire Brigade and An Garda Síochána to reports of a fire in an underground car park in Swords earlier this week.

Thankfully, before emergency services arrived, three members of the public acted quickly and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing what could have become a much more serious incident. As a result, there were no injuries or casualties reported.

While we would always encourage people to consider their own safety first and never put themselves at unnecessary risk during an emergency, the actions of these individuals were undoubtedly brave and made a significant difference on the day.

Well done to everyone involved, and thank you to those members of the public whose quick thinking helped bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

⚠️ Our services are under exceptional pressure today with significantly high call volumes and serious delays across all lines.

Please only call 999 or 112 in a life-threatening emergency.

We urge you to explore alternative care options before contacting us. Your cooperation is critical in ensuring emergency resources remain available for those who need them most.

Another beautiful summer’s evening as our night crews prepare for the shift ahead ☀️🚑

A gentle reminder that emergency services are EXTREMELY busy at present and we would ask everyone to consider all available healthcare options before calling for an ambulance where appropriate.

Out of hours GP services, local pharmacies, minor injury clinics and self-presenting to Emergency Departments may all be suitable options depending on your situation.

As always, our crews remain available to help those most in need and will continue to assist as best we can throughout the night ahead.

Stay safe and enjoy the good weather 🌅

The Dublin North East Decontamination Team recently participated in a multi-agency training exercise in collaboration with our hospital colleagues from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

As part of the exercise, the NAS team provided a fully operational external decontamination setup and specialist decontamination personnel to support the Emergency Department response, while hospital teams conducted a series of simulated emergency scenarios and operational training exercises internally.

These joint interagency exercises are essential in strengthening operational preparedness, enhancing interprofessional collaboration, and supporting continuous learning and service development across both pre-hospital and hospital emergency care settings. They also provide a valuable opportunity to test coordinated response capabilities, reinforce communication pathways, and ensure a high level of readiness for potential major emergency or hazardous material incidents.

Two units from National Ambulance Service (NAS)Swords (that's us 😎) alongside a Dublin Fire Brigade tender from Tara Street, responded to a cardiac arrest at a train station late last night.

Thanks to excellent bystander CPR and the quick actions passers by and of Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail staff, crews achieved ROSC (Return of Spontaneous Circulation) — meaning the patient’s heart started beating effectively again and blood flow was restored.

This is exactly why early CPR and rapid teamwork matter. Every link in the chain of survival made a difference here.

Well done to everyone involved, and our very best wishes go to the patient.

Together, everyone can help save lives.

Some days really show the value of teamwork across services 🚁🚑🚒

We were delighted to work alongside Irish Coast GuardR116 and Dublin Fire Brigade to provide emergency care for a paediatric patient en-route to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Incidents like this involve many moving parts, with multiple agencies coordinating in real time through the National Emergency Operation Centre to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Our best wishes go to the patient and their family 💛

🚑 A Little Space Goes a Long Way

Getting around busy towns and city streets can be challenging for everyone, and we understand that parking spaces can sometimes be hard to find. However, it’s really important to be mindful of designated emergency vehicle spaces.

Our ambulances are over 6 metres long, weigh 5.5 tonnes, and many are fitted with tail lifts and specialist equipment. That means we need a bit more room than the average vehicle to safely park, load equipment, and move patients.
Blocking or parking in ambulance bays, even “just for a minute”, can delay crews when they need quick access to their vehicle.

Please take a moment to check signage and park responsibly so that these spaces remain available when they’re needed most.
Thanks for helping us keep things moving 🚑
