There are simple actions we can all take to help protect our organisation from cyber threats.

Focus on 3 key actions to play your part:​
⚫train – complete your cyber awareness training​ on HSELand
⚫think – be cautious with emails, links and attachments​
⚫report – flag suspicious activity immediately

If something doesn't seem right, report it straight away. Early action makes a difference.

Credential sharing may seem convenient, but it significantly weakens security and increases risk across the organisation.

We manage highly sensitive patient information and rely on secure systems to support patient care - protecting login credentials is essential.

Key risks of credential sharing include:
• Loss of accountability - systems can no longer reliably track who accessed or changed information.
• Increased cyberattack risk - compromised shared accounts can make it easier for attackers to spread through systems and deploy ransomware.
• Disruption to patient care - security incidents can impact clinical operations and service delivery.
• Compliance breaches - HSE policies and regulations require every user to have unique credentials.
• Patient privacy risks - shared access can lead to unauthorised access to sensitive health information.

Staff at Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise recently took part in a MedLIS Roadshow, where teams had an opportunity to learn more about the new national digital laboratory information system ahead of local rollout.

Clinical, nursing and laboratory staff heard more about how MedLIS will support patient testing and laboratory services, with benefits including:

• reduced turnaround times for patient test results
• improved support for patient care
• greater ability to share work across HSE hospital laboratories
• digital access to patient results across hospitals and healthcare providers

MedLIS is designed to support the delivery of diagnostic laboratory medicine and strengthen quality, efficiency and outcomes across the health service. It is already live in Beaumont Hospital and Cavan Monaghan General Hospital, and over time will be introduced across all 43 HSE public hospitals.
