Today is Africa Day, the day that marks the foundation of the African Union and the annual worldwide celebration of the people and cultures of this wonderful continent.

Across Ireland, all 31 Local Authorities host cultural and family friendly events to celebrate the diversity, vibrancy and richness of African cultures, as well as the growing links between Ireland and countries across the African continent.

Here's a reminder of the energy and vibrancy of last year's event.

Join us on Sunday 17 May for a day of African music, dance and culture, at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Africa Day celebrations at RHK are organised in partnership with Dublin City Council.

Congratulations 🎉 to all the primary schools who participated in this year's Our World Awards.

Minister Neale Richmond TD was joined by students and teachers to announce the 2026 awards at the National Final.

Primary schools from across the country submitted projects on issues such as climate change, poverty, sustainability and global equality. There was over 500 entries, with a final fifteen schools chosen to showcase their amazing projects.

St Joseph's National School, Dundalk received the top award for their project which addressed environmental neglect and the sustainable development goals.
