“The Government's recent cost of living measures were extremely limited and people are still paying close to €2 per litre for petrol and diesel and close to €1,000 for a half fill of their oil tank.

“In these circumstances it’s no surprise that there are protests on the streets to demand meaningful Government action. The contrast between the weak response of the Government to the energy price crisis and its slavish fulfillment of every demand from corporate landlords and developers is clear to everyone, and they are angry about it.

“These protests come as we approach two years since I first introduced the Emergency Price Controls Bill in the Dáil. The provisions of the Bill proposed to set maximum prices for petrol and diesel at €1.75 per litre, and for home heating oil at €1 per litre. If the Government had supported our Bill at any time during the last two years people would not now be facing this energy prices crisis."

Government failure to support our price caps bill resulted in energy price crisis. People Before Profit says fuel price protests are response to Government inaction. Will publish comprehensive proposals to cut prices and protect living standards on Monday.

ALL OUT THIS WEDNESDAY 🚨 The government is trying to ram a rent hikes bill through the Dáil that will throw renters to the wolves. This bill opens the door to brutal “market rent resets” that could drive rents up by up to 40%. It is an outright attack on working-class people already drowning in extortionate rents.

FF and FG are banking on your silence and most renters not knowing what the bill actually is. We cannot let them get away with it. Renters are already being shafted by a landlord-first system and this bill tightens the boot on our necks.

This is a line in the sand. We need mass action and we need it now.

Join us at 5:30 to take action against the RTB bill.
Stand up for renters across the country.
Spread the word, get angry, and fight back.

Show solidarity with the Nkencho family as they sit through an Inquest into the killing of their son and brother George, shot 6 times by an armed response unit Garda on his doorstep in December 2020. The Irish state has been covering up the truth of the events that day and refuses to make this Garda accountable.

A huge investigation was done by GSOC, but the Director of Public Prosecutions opted not to make any prosecutions! We’ve seen this before with the DPP not prosecuting r**e cases, for example. This inordinate power to prevent trials must be challenged. Now, it is feared the Coroner may restrict the options for verdicts for the jury at the Inquest. Nothing short of ‘Unlawful Killing’ will do justice here.

Gardai can’t be allowed to operate with impunity. They must be accountable to the community they are meant to serve. And when they kill people there should automatically be a trial, as with any other killing. Shooting someone with a mental health crisis, not negotiating or defusing, is wrong. George could easily have been disarmed of the kitchen knife he had by the multiple Gardaí present, who all had training, non lethal weaponry and stab vests.

We need minority representatives, anti racists and all who care about human rights and justice to gather in support.
