端午節 🐲🛶即將來臨，ㄧ起來了解一下台灣竹南百年「祭江洗港」文化

【端午、媽祖與巨鯨🐋】

1943年，一頭擱淺鯨魚吸引竹南民眾出海圍觀，卻因竹筏超載翻覆，造成32人罹難。這場悲劇促成竹南將原有祭儀整合為全鎮共同參與的「祭江洗港」。

每逢端午節，竹南中港慈裕宮媽祖率眾神巡海祭江，祭典尾聲更保留獨特禁忌：神轎面海倒退而行，眾人背向大海、不回頭、不出聲、不呼喚彼此姓名，以撫慰亡魂、追思歷史，也向大海致敬。

A Whale, Mazu, and a Century-Old Dragon Boat Festival Ritual 🐋

In 1943, a stranded whale off the coast of Zhunan, Miaoli, drew crowds eager to see it. A bamboo raft designed for about 20 people became overloaded with nearly 60 passengers, capsized, and tragically claimed 32 lives.

The disaster led local communities to unite their rituals into the annual Jijiang Xigang (Harbor-Cleansing Ceremony). Today, during the Dragon Boat Festival, Mazu and other deities are carried to the shore to honor the departed and pray for safety at sea.

The ceremony concludes with a solemn taboo: deity palanquins retreat while still facing the sea, and participants must walk away without looking back, speaking, or calling one another’s names.

More than a religious ritual, it is a way for Zhunan to remember its past, comfort lost souls, and pay tribute to the sea.

1904 年的都柏林是什麼模樣？
What did Dublin look like in 1904?

6 月 16 日在愛爾蘭被稱為 ，紀念愛爾蘭文學家 James Joyce 和他的經典小說《Ulysses》。

《 》的故事設定於 1904 年 6 月 16 日，記錄主角 Leopold Bloom 穿梭於都柏林街頭的一天，還有沿途的所見所思；這個日期，也是 Joyce 與未來妻子 Nora Barnacle 首次約會的日子。

An Unexpected Bus Stop

位於台灣北海岸的 #白沙灣，以綿延超過一公里的貝殼白沙海灘聞名，每年吸引許多遊客前去踏浪、戲水，享受海風鹹鹹的滋味。

最近，白沙灣又多了一處讓人佇足驚呼「景點」——一座公車站。以木頭和大片玻璃打造的候車亭，不僅為乘客遮風、避雨、遮擋艷陽，也讓候車時光多了幾分愜意。

Taiwan's on the northern coast is known for its beautiful white-sand beach, stretching for more than a kilometre and drawing visitors who come to enjoy the sea breeze, sunshine, and shoreline views. 🐚

Recently, the area gained an unexpected new attraction — a bus stop.

Built with timber and large glass panels, the shelter not only provides protection from the sun, wind, and rain, but also offers a relaxing place to take in the surrounding coastal scenery while waiting for the next bus.

愛爾蘭的社區裡，有時能巧遇小狐狸 🦊；在台灣，則可能和 #白鼻心 不期而遇。

近年來，白鼻心已逐漸成為台灣城市中的新鄰居。透過無線電追蹤、公民目擊回報與影像紀錄等方式， #國立台灣大學 研究團隊與合作夥伴持續觀察白鼻心在都市的生活樣貌。2023 至 2024 年間，研究團隊首度記錄到兩隻雌性白鼻心共同育幼的行為——除了白鼻心媽媽照顧幼獸外，另一隻 #鄰居阿姨 🐾 也提供協助。相關成果已刊登於國際期刊《Mammal Research》，成為目前全球靈貓科動物共同育幼行為的首例文獻紀錄 📜

In some Irish neighbourhoods, you might spot a wandering by. In Taiwan, you may instead encounter a .

In recent years, masked palm civets have become increasingly common urban neighbours in Taiwan. Through radio tracking, citizen reports, and camera footage, researchers from and their partners have been studying how these animals adapt to life in the city. 🏙

Between 2023 and 2024, the research team recorded something never documented before: two adult female masked palm civets jointly caring for young. Alongside the mother, a second female — described as a helpful “neighbourhood auntie” 💁 — was observed assisting with raising the cubs.

The findings were published in the journal and represent the first documented case of cooperative breeding behaviour among civet species anywhere in the world.

As cities continue to expand, people and wildlife increasingly share the same spaces. Understanding how different species adapt and coexist is a challenge faced by communities worldwide. 🌏 This discovery by Taiwanese researchers not only deepens our understanding of masked palm civets, but also contributes valuable insights to international wildlife research and conservation efforts.

同時，對於中國及部分國家在大會期間再次扭曲 #聯大第2758號決議 及WHA第25.1號決議，海地🇭🇹、帛琉🇵🇼、聖克里斯多福及尼維斯🇰🇳、聖露西亞🇱🇨、貝里斯🇧🇿 與日本🇯🇵 也公開嚴正駁斥，強調這兩項決議與台灣無關。

｜Taiwan's innovation, tech & healthcare expertise on show to the world 🫶

Many of our allies and like-minded partners spoke up for Taiwan, delivering speeches, proposing agenda items, issuing joint statements, and writing open letters, during the 79th World Health Assembly, which concluded last month. They recognized how Taiwan's healthcare experience has helped to enrich the international community, and backed Taiwan's participation in the World Health Organization and WHA, in keeping with the spirit of "leaving no one behind."

Haiti🇭🇹, Palau🇵🇼, Saint Kitts and Nevis🇰🇳, Saint Lucia🇱🇨, Belize🇧🇿, and Japan🇯🇵also condemned the distortion of UNGA Resolution 2758 and WHA Resolution 25.1 by the PRC and other countries, stressing that the resolutions do not mention Taiwan. We sincerely thank our friends for their strong support.

Taiwan's tech strengths and healthcare expertise were on full display in Geneva during the WHA, thanks to our innovative approach and cross-ministry cooperation, ensuring that our request to participate was heard by the world. MOFA Minister Lin Chia-lung also led a delegation of industry representatives to take part in the Taiwan Smart Medical & HealthTech Expo, demonstrating medical innovation, smart tech, and resilience, in a testament to the values-based, alliance-based, and economic diplomacy that makes up the integrated diplomatic approach.

MOFA will continue to harness public-private cooperation to ensure Taiwan's healthcare expertise is center stage and that we can help realize the goal of health for all 🤝
