A fantastic day of sport recently as Team Admin Daryl attended the Ireland v New Zealand cricket Test match in Belfast 🏏

An exciting fixture and a great opportunity to support international sport and strengthen connections between our two countries - made all the better by a victory for the Black Caps!

Many thanks to Craig Easdown and all at Cricket Ireland for the warm welcome (and thanks Daryl for selflessly taking time away from your desk to watch the cricket)

The Embassy's Team Admin Daryl recently paid a visit to Lorrha, Co Tipperary for an Anzac Ceremony, with thanks to the Martin O'Meara VC Committee and our friends at the Australian Embassy.

Lorrha, a small village of just a couple of hundred people, has made an outsized contribution to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force - Thomas Houlihan of Abbeyville served and died in 1918, and three brothers from Portland: George Jonston Byrne who was also killed in 1918, John Thomas Byrne was wounded and discharged and Richard Byrne survived the war and resumed living in New Zealand.

The day involved meeting Gerard O'Meara and others from the Martin O'Meara VC Committee, a visit to Lockeen Churchyard, Rockview, the Heritage Centre, Community Hall and a tour of Lorrha village.

Ambassador Ange and Deputy Ambassador Mabel were delighted to attend the NZ Dairy Tech Day in Co. Laois 🐄

It was great to see New Zealand agritech in action on an Irish farm—demonstrating practical ideas, strong partnerships, and a shared focus on sustainable, high-quality production.

Days like this underline the strong alignment between New Zealand and Ireland in pasture-based farming—and the opportunities to deepen our trade and innovation partnerships.

Thanks to New Zealand Trade & Enterprise and our hosts at Camcloon Dairy for an insightful event.

The performance is part of a bigger project titled "A Conversation with Magdalene Artists from Aotearoa New Zealand" which has received funding from the SRIS (Strategic Research Incentivisation Scheme). The second part of the project will take place in September and October.

Ambassador Ange attended the National Famine Commemoration in Portumna, Co Galway at the weekend, hosted by Taoiseach Micheal Martin and Minister Patrick O'Donovan.

The event was both beautiful and profoundly sobering.

The Famine stands as one of the most devastating periods in Irish history—over a million people lost their lives, and over a million more were forced to emigrate, leaving behind homes, families, and futures. The legacy of that loss is still felt across generations and across the world.

The ceremony offered a moment to reflect, to remember those who suffered, and to honour the resilience and strength of the Irish people. A powerful reminder of the importance of memory.

🧶 Ambassador Ange and Policy Advisor Gabrielle travelled to Tralee, Co Kerry for Wool Day 2026 recently.

🧷 Wool Day was a major international event that brought together over 1,000 attendees to champion wool as a sustainable, climate-positive material. The event combined high-level policy discussion with public hands-on festivities, emphasizing wool's vital role in the circular economy and cultural heritage.

🐑 Did you know that New Zealand's population is 5.3m, but its sheep population is 23.6m (and in the 1980s, the NZ flock peaked at 70 million sheep)?

🧵 Also, New Zealand is the world's largest global supplier of strong or coarse wool, used primarily in the carpet, upholstery and construction industries?

Thanks to the Irish Grown Wool Council for having us!
