As part of the Dublin Tech Summit, Ambassador Telemachou visited the stand organised by Invest Cyprus - Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency and the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry(Υπουργείο Ενέργειας, Εμπορίου και Βιομηχανίας), which participated in DTS for the second consecutive year.

The team successfully promoted Cyprus as an attractive destination for investors seeking opportunities in innovative projects, while highlighting the country’s growing role as a hub for technology, entrepreneurship and innovation.

In collaboration with the Dublin Tech Summit team, the Embassy also hosted an informal networking event on 28 May at the Embassy Residence, bringing together inspiring speakers and professionals to exchange insights on AI, innovation and future opportunities for cooperation.

We warmly thank everyone who visited the Cyprus stand and attended the event at the Residence. Special thanks to Mr Kyriakos Attouni, Mr Costas Dafos and Ms Aikaterini Barotsaki for their excellent collaboration, and congratulations on a highly successful Dublin Tech Summit.

Cyprus continues to strengthen its position as a growing hub for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, creating new opportunities for international collaboration and investment.

The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Ireland forwards the position of the Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

The acts displayed by Minister Ben Gvir towards flotilla participants are utterly unacceptable and inconsistent with democratic norms and fundamental values of human dignity.

While the statements issued by Israeli government members distancing themselves from such disrespectful conduct are noted, rectifying steps should be taken immediately. Such condemnable behaviour can never be tolerated and should be duly accounted for.

Can small states shape the EU agenda or simply respond to it?

Panel I at Dublin tackled that question with depth and candour.

Speakers examined how smaller member states build influence inside EU institutions through coalition-building, the honest broker role, and the strategic use of unanimity rules. The veto versus qualified majority voting debate was a recurring thread: while QMV may unblock decision-making, panellists cautioned that decisions taken without ownership are decisions that go unimplemented, pointing to the 2015 migration relocation vote as a cautionary tale.

EU enlargement featured prominently, with Montenegro’s accession path and the “28 by 28” ambition discussed alongside the complex realities facing Ukraine and Moldova.

Panellists also reflected on Cyprus’ EU Council Presidency, its achievements, its honest broker credentials, and the areas where more could have been done.

Ireland’s incoming Presidency, the Multiannual Financial Framework, and the post-Brexit realignment of Irish EU strategy rounded out a rich exchange.

A sharper note came on selective legality: if legal norms are applied inconsistently on Gaza, Venezuela, or elsewhere, smaller states lose the very credibility they depend on when invoking international law in their own interest.

Thank you to Frank Smyth, Ambassador of Cyprus to Ireland Louis Telemachou, Barry Ward TD, Barry Colfer of IIEA, and Harry Tzimitras of PRIO Cyprus Centre, and to moderator Jack Power of The Irish Times.
