Don't miss Mirandolina by Marina Carr at the Abbey Theatre from 28 August to 5 September! 🇮🇹🇮🇪

📚 We’re getting ready for the show with readings from our library... we can’t wait to see this story come alive on stage!

With a cast of leading Italian actors and an Irish creative team, Carr and Caitríona McLaughlin have re-imagined Carlo Goldoni’s La Locandiera to explore identity, gender, and power as it echoes through the generations.

Set in modern-day Dublin, this rich new work examines the life of a young woman working in an Italian restaurant, as she carefully navigates a path between the men who surround and admire her, even as they work to bend her to their will. Armed with courage and intelligence, Mirandolina decides to fight back.

Translated by Monica Capuani, Mirandolina is performed in Italian with English surtitles and is a co-production by the Abbey Theatre, Teatro Stabile del Veneto – Teatro Nazionale Italy, and Croatian National Theatre in Rijeka – HNK Rijeka. Supported by Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, Department of Culture, Communications and Sport EU Presidency Culture Programme, Culture Ireland, Embassy of Italy in Ireland, Italian Institute of Culture Dublin, and Mediolanum International Funds LTD.

🖋️It’s dangerous to play with a young man’s pride.” “And what about a young woman’s pride?”

One of the most powerful and original voices in contemporary Irish theatre, Marina Carr, returns to the Abbey Theatre this summer with her remarkable version of a classic Italian play.

Buon vento! 🇮🇹

Last night, An Taoille Tuile – Alta Marea opened its doors to a wonderfully engaged and enthusiastic audience.

Through the conversation with architects Agostino Omini and Anna Setti, moderated by curator Cristina Ciampaglione, we explored the stories, landscapes and ideas behind the workshop developed as part of EASA 2026.

The response from the public was so strong, and the themes explored so timely and relevant, that we have decided to keep the exhibition open throughout next week, until Friday, 21 August.

At the exhibition, visitors can discover original works created during the workshop, including paper made from seaweed, alongside other experimental pieces exploring cultural and ecological potential of this extraordinary resource.

We warmly invite everyone who could not attend the opening to come and discover the works produced during the workshop.

An Taoille Tuile – High Tide
Seaweed, Coastal Traditions and Future Ecological Challenges

📅 Open until Friday, 21 August
🕰️ During normal office hours
🎟️ Send an email to [email protected] to book your admission

The Director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Michela Linda Magrì, congratulates the young architects on their outstanding work and expresses the hope that this event will pave the way for new and inspiring collaborations in the field of sustainability. A very warm thank you to Agostino, Anna and Cristina, and to everyone who joined us last night.
