On 4 June, Dublin hosted the first-ever Italian Research Day in Ireland, bringing together over 80 Italian researchers from leading universities and research centres across the country. The initiative, held for the first time in Ireland, was organized by the Italian Embassy in Dublin in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) with the aim of fostering mutual understanding, dialogue, and collaboration among Italian researchers based in Ireland.

Following the introduction by the IIC Director, Michela Magrì, the event opened with a speech by the Italian Ambassador to Dublin, Nicola Faganello. This was followed by five interdisciplinary sessions in which Professors Silvia Giordani (DCU,recently appointed Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, OMRI), Marco Bellardi (UCD), Goran Dominioni (DCU), Massimiliano Mascherini (Eurofound), and Valeria Nicolosi (Trinity College) presented some of their current research to the audience. The morning featured engaging presentations and Q&A sessions, covering topics ranging from nanotechnologies, nanomaterials, and maritime decarbonization to 20th-century literature and labor market analysis in the EU.

The day concluded with the celebrations of Italy’s National Day, marking the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic and bringing together representatives of Irish institutions, the diplomatic corps, the Italian community, and the local business sector.
