Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, and Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O'Sullivan TD, have today announced €2,445,229 in funding for projects aimed at improving water quality across the country.

The funding has been awarded through the Community Water Development Fund and the Catchment Support Fund, both administered by the Local Authority Waters Programme on behalf of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

Of the total awarded, €1,332,492 will be delivered through the Community Water Development Fund to 92 projects nationally and €1,112,737 through the Catchment Support Fund to 56 groups across 20 counties, in addition to two national projects.

Today, Minister of State for Housing and Older People, Kieran O'Donnell, TD addressed delegates at the second day of The Housing Agency Ireland annual Housing Practitioners’ Conference in Wexford.

The conference was attended by housing practitioners, including local authority staff, Approved Housing Bodies and Government officials.

It consisted of expert speakers and workshops and promoted peer to peer learning and best practice.

578 new homes in Inchicore, Dublin 🏘️

Minister James Browne TD and Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Ray McAdam turned the sod at An Droichead Órga, officially marking the start of construction at the site.

An Droichead Órga is a landmark mixed tenure scheme development by Dublin City Council that will deliver 137 social homes and 441 cost rental homes, alongside significant community, and public amenities.

Elliott Group have been appointed as the construction contractor for the residential element of the scheme, with an initial contract to deliver the first 478 homes, together with the creche, library and community hub.

A record 7,005 social and cost rental homes delivered by approved housing bodies (AHBs) in 2025.

Minister James Browne TD attended the Irish Council for Social Housing AGM today where a record 7,005 social and cost rental homes delivered by approved housing bodies (AHBs) in 2025 was announced.

The figures in the ICSH Delivery Report also show:
✅The 7,005 total homes figure is made up of 5,465 new social homes and 1,540 cost rental homes, delivered by AHBs. This is a 25% increase from 2024 output.
✅This total represents growth of more than 500% in ten years, and 10% average annual growth each year since 2015.
✅AHBs around the country now own and manage more than 75,000 homes providing housing certainty and stability for low- and middle-income households.

Government announces changes to Planning Exemptions Regulations

Today Ministers James Browne TD and John Cummins TD brought an update to Cabinet on the proposed Exempted Development Regulations for Residential Dwellings.

The proposed changes follow input from public consultation which received almost 1,000 submissions and will free up planners and give homeowners greater freedom to adapt their homes to changing needs.
