The festivals 2nd Irish premiere is Nicolás: From Yare to Miraflores.

It's a biopic-mix with archive footage, music and recreations that tell the story of the Bolivarian Revolution through Nicolás Maduro's journey from bus driver and union organiser to Hugo Chavez's right hand man.

The movie also covers the CIA-backed atrocities in 1970s Venezuela, the assassination of Jorge Rodríguez, and the influence of the Cuban Revolution.

You won't see this on Irish TV.

Why is this man and his family sanctioned by the US?

Earlier this month, the US Treasury announced new sanctions against Cuba's president Miguel Díaz-Canel — along with his wife, his stepson, and members of Raúl Castro's family.

This comes as Cuba faces a brutal energy blockade enforced by the US Navy, with power outages of up to 22 hours a day and critical food and medicine shortages. Trump has threatened military action against the island, saying "Cuba is next."
