There are only a few spots left on our special Bloomsday tour, 'The Language of Flowers' at 10am on June 16!

Join us on an odyssey through the flowers, plants, and blooms which inspired James Joyce’s work ranging over the entirety of his oeuvre and illuminating a little-explored avenue of its verbal play and symbolic detail. From the ancient elms of Finnegans Wake to the floral dictionaries of Ulysses this tour will illuminate a fascination with plants that accompanied Joyce throughout his life and which has received little critical comment. This tour will also delve into how Joyce appropriates and interprets some of the literary history of Glasnevin, examining its associations with figures like Jonathan Swift and Thomas Tickell.

Tickets are €5 and can be purchased on Eventbrite:

Join the Alpine Garden Society this Saturday May 16th at 11.30am in the Visitor Centre Auditorium for the lecture Romanian Alpine Plants by Razvan Chisu.

Razvan runs his own gardening and horticultural consultancy business. He writes for various gardening magazines and gives lectures on botanical and gardening topics to groups in the UK and abroad. He also volunteers for the Royal Horticultural Society as a core member of the Alpine and Rock Garden Expert Group.

From 2021 to 2025 he worked as the Social Media Manager for the Alpine Garden Society, and was responsible for organising all the Society’s Zoom lectures, Young Person’s Weekend, and managing the Society’s website, newsletter and social media profiles. Between 2014 and 2020 he was the editor of the Saxifrage Magazine for the Saxifrage Society. He has also designed and coordinated many displays at RHS Flower Shows for the Alpine Garden Society, Hardy Plant Society and Plant Heritage.

He was fortunate to grow up in Transylvania in a town surrounded by vast woodlands and species-rich wildlife meadows, a fact that has influenced the way he designs and maintain gardens. He has organised and led tours to Transylvania, Greece, Sweden and Spain, giving him the opportunity to share his love of plants and botanical knowledge.
