His Excellency Dr. Lahcen Mahraoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ireland, received Mr. Phil Hogan at the Embassy this morning.

Mr. Hogan, a former European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development (2014–2019) and for Trade (2019–2020), has been nominated by the Government of Ireland as its candidate for the position of Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for 2027. His distinguished public service career also includes serving as Ireland’s Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government (2011–2014) and as a Member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish Parliament, from 1989 to 2014.

Strengthening Morocco–Latvia Relations 🇲🇦🇱🇻

His Excellency Dr. Lahcen Mahraoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ireland, had the pleasure of welcoming Her Excellency Agnese Salina, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ireland, for a courtesy visit this morning at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Dublin.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on the friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Latvia, as well as to underline the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties through dialogue, mutual understanding, and enhanced cooperation.

Both Ambassadors also highlighted the importance of fostering closer relations and developing constructive engagement between their respective embassies, with a view to reinforcing the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The visit reflected a shared commitment to nurturing diplomatic dialogue and exploring new avenues for collaboration, further contributing to the development of Morocco–Latvia relations.

His Excellency Dr. Lahcen Mahraoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, was pleased to receive this morning Her Excellency Jooyeon Ellen Kang, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, who paid him a courtesy call at the Embassy.

During their meeting, both Ambassadors highlighted the strong and friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Korea and exchanged views on opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration between the two Embassies and promoting closer ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

🇲🇦🇮🇪 Morocco in the Spotlight at the Sandyford Innovation Summit 2026

What a fantastic start to this year’s Sandyford Innovation Summit!

Professor Aawatif Hayar opened the event by showcasing Morocco’s expertise in Smart Campus and Smart City development, highlighting the innovative work being carried out at UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

She presented UM6P’s AI-powered Smart Campus Living Lab, demonstrating how frugal, sovereign and socially driven innovation can place people and communities at the heart of technological progress.

During her visit, Professor Hayar, accompanied by Leo McBride , Founder & CEO of DCaaS Global, creators of NaviSlí, the AI-powered, accessibility-first wayfinding and city engagement platform also met with His Excellency Dr. Lahcen Mahraoui, Ambassador of His Majesty the King of Morocco to Ireland.

Discussions focused on identifying new avenues and practical tools to further strengthen the excellent relations between Irish and Moroccan companies, universities and research centres, fostering greater collaboration, knowledge exchange and joint innovation.

The conversations also explored international cooperation, talent attraction and Ireland’s National Innovation Blueprint, highlighting the opportunities for both countries to learn from one another and build meaningful partnerships.

And there is more to come! An Irish delegation is expected to visit Morocco in spring 2027 to explore further opportunities for collaboration in social innovation and sustainable development.

His Excellency Lahcen Mahraoui held a highly productive meeting with Jenny Melia, CEO of Enterprise Ireland, reaffirming the excellent and growing relations between Morocco and Ireland and exploring new opportunities for economic cooperation.

The discussions highlighted Morocco’s unique strategic position as a gateway to Africa, offering international businesses a strong platform to access the continent’s dynamic and rapidly expanding markets.

With its geostrategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, extensive free-trade agreements, world-class infrastructure, strong connectivity, and growing presence across African markets, Morocco has established itself as an increasingly important hub for trade, investment and business development.

Morocco’s First Woman Head of Government

Following the legislative elections of 23 September, His Majesty King Mohammed VI received this afternoon Ms. Fatima Zahra El Mansouri in a Royal Audience and entrusted her with the formation of the new Government.

Her Party, The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), emerged as the largest party in the House of Representatives, with 97 of the 395 seats.

This Royal appointment marks a historic milestone for the Kingdom: Ms. Fatima Zahra El Mansouri becomes the first woman to serve as Head of Government in Morocco.

Her appointment represents an important moment in Morocco’s political and institutional development and in the continued advancement of women’s participation in public life.

We extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to Ms. El Mansouri as she undertakes this historic responsibility and wishes her every success in her mission to serve our Kingdom and its people.

🇲🇦🤝🇮🇪 Strengthening Morocco–Ireland Cooperation Through Sport

H.E. Dr Lahcen Mahraoui, ambassador of the kingdom of Morocco to Ireland, held this morning a meeting with Mohamed Amine Zariat, President and Founder of Tibu Africa, and Hamid Bouzit, Sports Diplomacy Officer at Tibu Africa, during their visit to Ireland.

Tibu Africa is a pioneering Moroccan NGO that uses sport as a powerful tool for education, social and economic inclusion, youth and women’s empowerment, and sustainable development. Through impactful programmes, Tibu Africa supports children, young people and vulnerable communities in developing their skills, employability and leadership.

Their visit to Ireland took place in the context of Tibu Africa’s participation in the EU Presidency Conference on Traditional Sports and Games at Croke Park, as well as the European Week of Sport. It also provided an opportunity to engage with key Irish and European sports institutions and explore new avenues for cooperation and future partnerships.

During their visit, the Tibu Africa representatives met with:

His Excellency Dr. Lahcen Mahraoui, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ireland and Acting Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Dublin, received the Honourable James Gyakye Quayson, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana, and the delegation accompanying him, during a courtesy call at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Dublin.

The visit took place in the context of the Government of Ghana’s decision to establish a resident Embassy in Dublin, marking an important step towards further strengthening Ghana’s diplomatic presence in Ireland and deepening bilateral engagement.

The meeting provided an opportunity for a fruitful exchange on the longstanding and cordial relations between Ghana and Morocco, as well as on matters of mutual interest and cooperation.

Ambassador Mahraoui expressed his appreciation to the Honourable Deputy Minister for the visit and reaffirmed his readiness to work closely with the future Ambassador of Ghana to Ireland, in a spirit of friendship and cooperation, for the benefit of both countries and in support of the shared interests of the African continent.

The meeting further underscored the importance of solidarity, dialogue and enhanced African diplomatic cooperation in Ireland.
