With the good weather here, Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner Dermatology/Skin Cancer , Elrey Janolino, would like to share some steps to protect your skin while enjoying the outdoors.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland, affecting around 7,000 people each year. While most types are treatable, protecting your skin now is the best way to reduce your risk later. Sun exposure and sunburn are the biggest causes, especially for those with fair skin, freckles, or light eyes.

👕 Slip on clothing that covers your skin
🧴 Slop on sunscreen (SPF 30+ for adults, SPF 50+ for children) – apply before heading out and reapply every 2 hours
👒 Slap on a wide-brimmed hat
🌳 Seek shade, especially between 11am–3pm
🕶️ Slide on UV-protective sunglasses
☀️ Remember: even on cloudy days, UV rays can damage your skin.
Enjoy the sun safely and make protecting your skin part of your daily routine. Your future self will thank you. 💛
