National independent Republican Wolfe Tone commemoration on Sunday 7th June 2026.

This commemoration is organised by Independent Republicans from across Ireland.

CHECK THE DATE CHANGE

Following conversations with many Republicans and the bands involved, we have decided to move our National Hunger Strike Commemoration to Sunday 30th August in Dublin.

We do this out of respect for the Bundoran event and equally important, for Republican unity and solidarity.

Our Hunger Strikers were united in their determination and we, as Independent Republicans share that determination to work with all genuine and principled Republicans.

We hope that on the 45th Anniversary of the Hunger Strike that many Republicans make the effort to attend the Dublin and Bundoran commemorations. Our ten brave volunteers deserve to be remembered with pride and an ongoing determination to see the British withdrawal and the Independent Republic they died for.

Following last week’s successful commemoration our attention now turns to the 45th Anniversary of the Hunger Strikes.

We have organised a National Commemoration on Saturday 29th August in Dublin.

Assembling at the Garden of Remembrance and parading through the City with bands in attendance.

Sundays Wolfe Tone commemoration was chaired by Republican activist, author and former POW John Crawley who once again oversaw the smooth running of events.

Over 16 wreaths were laid by various groups, independents and including one from Welsh nationalists.

The 1798 Proclamation was read by Grainne from Dublin and the wonderful poem ‘the man from God knows where‘ was recited by Malachi .

Noted historian Ruan O’Donnell spoke of Tone and the demands of the United Irishmen. A very historical speech delivered to his usual standard.

The main speaker was Brian Arthurs and he described himself as a proud Republican from Tyrone . Brian is much more that just that. He is a veteran Republican activist and a former POW.

Brian paid tribute to all the Republican activists who rose against the tyranny of British occupation. He equally paid tribute to the silent army - those who provided support and logistics throughout our

revolutions.
Brian went on to offer our support to the ongoing anti-imperialist fighters in Palestine, Lebanon, Iran and Cuba. International solidarity is a bedrock or Irish Republicanism.

A powerful part of the oration was the following “ Britain brought Genocide, starvation, murder, imprisonment, torture, exile, discrimination. Our identity, our language, our heritage, our sport, our music were all attacked, demonised and criminalised . Irish people fought back, rebelled, demanded their freedom”

He further stated “ Wolfe Tone, Robert Emmett, the Manchester Martyrs, Thomas Clarke, Kevin Barry, Mairead Farrell, Martin Hurson, Dessie Grew and my own brother, to name but a few did not want war. Britain brought war to our country. The people resisted and rebelled.” And “ I am proud of all the people who did not shy away from the cause - we salute the heroes of the Republic”

On what was another great event organised by Independent Republicans, Brian concluded by calling for “ A Republic of the people and for the people. Tiocfaidh at La”.

Hundreds of Republicans from across Ireland gathered in Sallins village on Sunday last, the 7th of June.

A vibrant and colourful parade to Bodenstown cemetery was led by a troop of pipers and drums who along with the Jemmy Hope MF band from Belfast belted out the finest of tunes much to the pleasure of all the locals who applauded as we passed bye.

Every county was represented and Republicans from several different groups along with many independent republican groups made their way to the graveside. Despite the threat of rainfall, spirits were high. The lure of Bodenstown is in our blood. Wolfe Tone and those that followed him are our strengths.

Following the lowering of the flags by the Independent Dublin Republicans colour party, chair of the day’s proceedings, John Crawley called upon historian Ruan O’Donnell to speak of Tone and his ideals. The main speaker was Tyrone Republican Brian Arthurs whose excellent speech received a rousing reception. (We will post excerpts of Brian’s oration tomorrow). Following the poetry and reading of the 1798 proclamation, the days events concluded with the National Anthem followed by a volley of shots by the historical society.

Once again our thanks to the National Graves Association for permitting us to use the Wolfe Tone monument and thanks to Liam of the NGA for his words.

A reception and ballads followed where fellow republicans could mingle and chat.

The Independent Republican Movement is growing. Principled and Genuine Republicanism is gaining momentum. No reform for us. No upholding British rule. For us the Revolution continues. We owe it to our Republican dead. A United Ireland for the people -by the people.

Wolfe Tone 2026

An excellent commemoration took place yesterday in Bodenstown cemetery which saw a huge crowd parade with pipers and bands to the grave of Wolfe Tone.

A full report and pictures will be posted tomorrow.

The event concluded with a volley of shots in honour of all our Republican martyrs.

On sacred ground…..

Principled Republicans from across Ireland will gather this Sunday in the village of Sallins and parade in large numbers to Bodenstown graveyard, the resting place of Wolfe Tone.

We do so not only as a pilgrimage in his honour but to to renew our pledge to the Irish Republic he and others fought, died and were imprisoned for. Not for us principled Republicans the path to compromise and subjugation. Our road leads to victory. A British withdrawal and a sovereign nation led by the people and for the people.

Hundreds of Republicans will gather in Sallins and parade to Bodenstown graveyard.

The strong voices of John Crawley, Ruan o’Donnell and Brian Arthurs will speak to the assembled crowd.

All roads lead to Bodenstown.

And all genuine and principled Republicans should be there. The ideals that the United Irishmen fought for remain unfulfilled but our commitment to achieving those aims continues unabated.

Stand for the Republic.

Stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow Republicans.

The annual Derry commemoration for the Republican dead and their families takes place this Sunday (May 24th) at 2pm.

Independent Republicans would encourage everyone to attend and pay homage to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for Irish Freedom.

Guest speaker on the day is John Crawley, life long republican, former POW and renowned author.
