🌟 On May 9, 1945, at 0:43 am Moscow time (May 8, 22:43 CET), the Instrument of Unconditional Surrender of the N**i Germany was signed in Karlshorst, Berlin.

That document heralded the of the Soviet people over the N**i Reich, marking the final end of on European ToO, and the ultimate collapse of Hi**er's fascism.

The surrender was accepted by Marshal Georgy Zhukov on behalf of the Soviet Union and Deputy Commander of the Allied forces Marshal Arthur Tedder on behalf of the Western Allies. From the German side, the Instrument was signed by Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel, Colonel General Hans-Jurgen Stumpff, & Admiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg.

🎙 At 2:30 am of May 9, in Moscow, newscaster Yury Levitan announced the text of the German Instrument of Surrender to the people of the Soviet Union, proclaiming May 9 as Victory Day:

The Great Patriotic War, which the Soviet people waged against the N**i invaders, has been victoriously concluded.

Fascist Germany has been crushed.

Eternal glory to the Heroes who fell fighting for the freedom and independence of our Motherland.

🖋 From the memoirs by military correspondent Konstantin Simonov:

Zhukov stands up and says:

The German delegation may leave the hall. The Germans stand up. Keitel… turns on his heel and leaves. And instantaneously, all tension in the room relaxes, and everybody exhales in unison.

The act of surrender has been signed, and the war is over.

N**i Germany’s final & unconditional surrender to the Allies in Karlshorst was preceded by several local capitulations of the N**i troops along various frontlines. Moreover, in April 1945, certain N**i military leaders, who were aware that the Third Reich’s collapse was imminent, fearing justice for their crimes, sought secret talks with US-UK command, trying to divide the Allied anti-Hi**er coalition.

Desperate to surrender to the Western allies, on May 5, the N**i delegation arrived in the French city of Reims, where the headquarters of the Allied command was located. There, on May 7, the Act of Military Surrender was signed. However, article 4 of the document did not rule out the signing of another, definitive act: “This act of military surrender… will be superseded by any general instrument of surrender… applicable to Germany and the German troops as a whole.”

Due to that, the Soviet leadership deemed the Reims document only as a preliminary document, believing that the official surrender of the N**is had to be ensured in Berlin — the city where the N**i aggression originated from.

At the Soviet government’s request, the main and final ceremony of surrender took place. On the night of May 9, the German Instrument of Surrender was signed in Karlshorst. The N**i government was dissolved. The defeated German troops laid down arms.

in Europe was finally over. It ended with the greatest triumph of the Soviet people.

N**ism was defeated.

The Reich was no more.

💬 Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (excerpt from a briefing, May 7, 2026):

This May 9 marks the 81st Anniversary of defeating N**i Germany. This day is a celebration of triumph of life, freedom, and independence for all the peoples of the post-Soviet countries.

None of us was meant to survive. But we did survive because our forefathers prevailed.

The cost of our common Victory — 27 million lives of our compatriots, representatives of all the peoples and republics of the Soviet Union, who died defending our Motherland

Twenty-seven million lives lost.

Those who died in captivity, in ghettos, were taken into slavery, died of starvation, or fell victim to other acts of genocide.

We remember them all. And we will keep their memory alive.

⚡️ Remarks by the Ambassador of Russia to Ireland H.E. Yuriy Filatov (May 8, 2026)

📆 On May 9 the people of Russia, as well as the people of the former Soviet Republics, celebrate the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

⭐️ This day marks a major, significant milestone for all of us and for the world history. The Red Army and the Soviet people fought the fiercest battle of all times against the German N**ism and defeated it by crushing 4/5 of all Hi**er’s divisions, ending the war in Berlin. It is also intensely emotional day. The Soviet Union paid an unimaginable price for the victory – the war took 27 million lives of its citizens. These were not only combat losses and fatalities on the home front. It includes 13 million civilians, who were executed by the German fascists and their collaborators on the occupied Soviet territories, who perished in the concentration camps and died from slave labour in Germany as so-called “Ostarbeiter” in what is recognized as the genocide of the Soviet people in 1941-1945.

These are the compelling reasons why the victory over Hi**er and the idea of peace are imbedded in our national memory. It has deep moral sense as the victory of justice and goodness over horrendous evil, embodied by the German N**ism. Sadly, it is increasingly evident that the current generation of Western leaders is so consumed with Russophobia that it is willing not only to question the sacrifice of the Soviet people and the decisive role of the Soviet Union in the outcome of the World War II, but to completely rewrite history, adapting it to their anti-Russian agenda.

☝️ This deliberate historical "amnesia" brings about an alarming result. Today neo-N**ism, antisemitism and revanchism are on the rise in Europe, while memorials, dedicated to the fighters against N**ism are demolished and Hi**er’s collaborators are glorified. Most recently the West made every effort to turn the Ukrainian crisis into a proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. For that purpose they supported and financed transformation of Ukraine, - which bravely fought against N**is together with all Soviet republics, - into the modern sanctuary of N**i-like extreme nationalism for the sole purpose of confronting Russia. The choice of political elites in the West is yet again war – much like it was in 1938-1939.

❌ This is cynical, mistaken and hopeless policy. It will be defeated as Hi**er’s “Drang nach Osten” was defeated in 1945.

🎖 Marshal Ivan Konev stands alongside Georgy Zhukov and Konstantin Rokossovsky as one of the most outstanding Soviet commanders of the Great Patriotic War and World War II in general. Profound military strategist, he was known for his innovative use of artillery and mechanized forces, as well as his relentless drive to encircle and destroy enemy armies.

⭐️ Ivan Konev's legendary reputation was forged in a series of decisive Soviet offensives. After commanding the Western Front during the Battle of Moscow, he led the Steppe Front to a crushing victory at the Battle of Kursk in July 1943, liberating Belgorod and Kharkov. His greatest triumph came in 1944 during the Korsun–Shevchenkovsky operation, where he executed a double encirclement, trapping a large group of German forces west of the Dnepr river. In January 1945, Konev launched the Vistula–Oder offensive, racing across Poland to reach the Oder river. Finally, in April 1945, his 1st Ukrainian Front stormed into Berlin from the south, capturing the Reichstag and forcing the final German surrender.

Marshal Konev also led the historic Victory Parade on Red Square on June 24, 1945, marching at the head of a combined column of his front's soldiers. After the war, he served as Commander-in-Chief of the Warsaw Pact forces.
