Victory for the People.

This week Catherine Connolly was inaugurated as Ireland's tenth president. Ireland chose independence of mind, honesty in politics, and republican values.

Catherine Connolly is now President of Ireland and the James Stephens Cumann are proud to have played our part in that victory.

From early mornings on the doors to rainy afternoons at stalls, our members put in the graft. Not just for a candidate, but for a cause.

Catherine’s win is a win for working people, and for communities long ignored by the Fianna Fáil/ Fine Gael consensus.

To all our members and supporters across Kilkenny City, you made this happen. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir. Let’s carry this energy forward.

Don't hesitate to get in touch should you want to stay involved!

Folks, can you check in among your homes/families/Whatsapp groups/workplaces and ask as many people
as possible: are you registered to vote? Are your friends and family?

This is especially important for young people, students, those who have moved house, come home from abroad or have new citizenship.

❗️Key dates for this election:

💌 29 September: Last day to register for a postal vote (if you’re away on election day for work)

👩🏼‍💻7 October: Deadline to register to vote - it takes two minutes! (Make sure you’re registered in the constituency you currently live in and that you’ll be on election day.)

📝 24 October: Polling day! Make a plan to get you and two friends to the polling station on time!

Disappointing to see the government vote against the Sinn Féin motion to stop the hike on student fees.

Education should be a right available to everyone, not the privileged few.

The James Stephens Cumann Kilkenny was present at the student protest outside Leinster House on Tuesday. Unfortunately the government has not listened to students, parents, the opposition or reason.

Last night’s meeting on Endometriosis was nothing short of powerful. Brave women stood up and shared their raw, honest and difficult personal stories.

It was a reminder of just how much silent suffering surrounds this condition, and how long-overdue proper recognition and adequate supports are.

The testimonies we heard were a stunning indictment of the gaps in healthcare, diagnosis, and understanding. The courage it took to speak publicly about chronic pain, missed diagnoses, fertility fears, and being dismissed by the HSE cannot be overstated.

The bravery of Fatma Omar and Aimee Brown for their continued advocacy for this cause has to be recognised as well.

A big thank you to Natasha Newsome Drennan and Maria Mccormack for hosting this important event which was attended by myself and Amy Ní Muircheartaigh from the James Stephens Cumann, Kilkenny City.

Delighted to represent the James Stephens Cumann Kilkenny and beside our Carlow- Kilkenny TD, Natasha Newsome Drennan at the Raise the Roof protest outside Leinster House today.

All Opposition parties and unions stood together, united against successive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael housing policies that have devasted this country.

We demand action to build on public land, to combat dereliction and vacancy, along with helping renters, mortgage holders and first time buyers!

It's time for action.

Today, we remember Bobby Sands.

A man of resistance, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to a united Ireland whose legacy continues to inspire generations.

We must recommit ourselves to carrying forward his vision until Ireland is truly free. Onwards to the Republic 🇮🇪

Today in Kilkenny, we gathered in solemn remembrance at the site of the Friary Street Ambush, as part of our Easter Commemorations.

We came together to honour the memory of all those who gave their lives during Ireland’s struggle for independence—both the brave Volunteers, Michael Dermody and Thomas Hennessy and an innocent civilian, Thomas Dollard, who was caught in the crossfire of a fight for freedom.

This sacred spot in our city bears the weight of history. It reminds us not only of the courage and sacrifice shown by patriots from Kilkenny and beyond, but also of the pain endured by families and communities in the pursuit of a sovereign nation.

As we laid wreaths and shared words of reflection, we remembered them not as distant names from the past, but as real people—our own—whose sacrifices helped shape the Ireland we live in today.

Ní bheidh a leithéidí arís ann.
They will not be forgotten
