The unit has been hard at work in the development of skills particularly with relation to pumping water from open water (canal, lake, pools, etc..). This skill is essential if Civil Defence gets called to assist in flooding like Dublin & other counties experienced recently.

In addition a last minute duty request came through that volunteers were able to step in on for fire & medical cover in Tallaght Stadium. As always when the call comes through it is answered.

Soon we will have a new intake of recruits joining the class. Keep an eye on page for updates on their progress ๐Ÿš’

As we celebrate World Civil Defence day our thoughts go out to all the volunteers around the world operating in this current climate of conflict & uncertainty.
The work Civil Defence does internationally is tireless & at times overlooked but members are always on hand when required.

Last night members of the unit visited Weston airport to have a look at the fire station on site & the Irish Coast Guard SAR helicopter base.

Getting opportunities to visit other frontline services is great chance for volunteers to see the capabilities of national emergency services. It also is a chance to see what doors can be opened.

The unit was shown around the 4 SAR helicopters on site, the fire appliances on site, specific aircraft fire & rescue tools & considerations as well as opportunity to try BA set & see entry control board.

We greatly appreciate the the crew for showing us around.

First proper training session back after the new year. The crew jumped straight back into things with a number of drills testing hose management, communication, pumping, open water awareness, ropework & ladder skills.
Belgard is lucky to have a 13.5 ladder on our appliance & with the help of volunteer who is also in fire service the class got a refresher on deployment of this asset. The 13.5 ladder is a large complex piece of equipment with additional safety considerations & the crew took it in their stride.

Keep following along as we continue bring you more on training & recruitment in 2026.

A great night had & well deserved after a busy year ๐Ÿ‘

Earlier this week as part of Civil Defence 75th Anniversary celebrations the Lord Mayor hosted a select group of volunteers in recognition of the organisations efforts including 2 of our very own. None of what we do is for recognition but it is nice when what we do is noticed.

The days are shorter but hospital demand for blood hasn't slowed down! Our very own Assistant Leader Ewa attended an event to celebrate her 50th donation recently, and amazing achievement. The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is a cause close to our units heart with multiple volunteers being donors & having helped with clinics during COVID.

Please make sure to check your eligibility & if you can, visit one of the many upcoming clinics in your community and help patients in need. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿฉธ
