Creative Ireland | Department of Culture, Communications and Sport

The Creative Ireland Programme is an invitation to the entire country to get involved in something truly inspirational. Creative Ireland is the Government’s Legacy Programme for Ireland 2016 – a five-year initiative, from 2017 to 2022, which places creativity at the centre of public policy. Creative Ireland will bring an enhanced level of coordination, focus and leadership to existing policies and initiatives across national and local government, State agencies, the arts and culture sector, Gaeltacht and Irish language organisations, and will provide linkages to the private business and NGO sectors. What does freedom mean to you?

For young Travellers taking part in Hoofprints of Youth in North Cork, freedom is found in the simple moments, being outdoors, connecting with nature and spending time together.

Through creativity and shared experiences, this inspiring programme is creating space for young Traveller voices to be heard, celebrated and expressed.

Led by the Travellers of North Cork, Hoofprints of Youth is part of the Traveller Wellbeing Through Creativity Programme, supported by Creative Ireland, the Arts Council, HSE and Healthy Ireland.

Art, innovation and sustainability come together at Maynooth University!

On Tuesday 13 October, artist Martina O’Brien unveiled heav(Y) b(La)ck stone, a trilogy of film installations housed in three 20ft shipping containers, each transformed into a miniature cinema powered by wind and solar energy.

The exhibition grew from Martina’s time as artist-in-residence with the Co-Creative Lab, supported by Creative Ireland, showcasing the exciting possibilities that emerge when creativity, innovation and sustainability meet.

Bringing Cork together, one book at a time!

One City One Book 2026, featured as part of Creative Ireland’s Creative Communities programme, invites people across Cork to connect through the joy of reading and storytelling. This year’s chosen book, Filly by Rosamund Taylor, takes centre stage in a celebration of local literature, with discussions and creative events bringing readers together.

Rekindling a love for music in Wicklow!

Rekindling Musical Passions, presented by the Wicklow County Creative Ireland Team in partnership with Music Network, is helping older adults rediscover the joy of playing music.

Through free one-to-one and group lessons in violin, harp and flute, participants can build confidence, develop their skills and connect with others through creativity.

Creativity is taking to the walls!

We’re delighted to see our Cruinniú na nÓg partners The Walls Project bringing their creativity to communities across Ireland as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, the nationwide programme will see young people and families get hands-on with street art and mural-making through workshops led by professional artists.

And there’s a chance for your community to get involved too! An open call is now inviting communities, organisations and local authorities to nominate a wall for a landmark mural celebrating Ireland’s EU Presidency.

The Sound & Technology Artist Residencies at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny are supporting three artists to experiment with new sound-based practices throughout 2026.

Sinead Kennedy, Candice Nembhard and Patrick McGlynn are exploring everything from environmental data and live coding to archival audio and interactive sound systems, with access to the time, space and technical resources to develop their work.

Supported through Creative Ireland’s Creative Communities, the programme reflects our commitment to enabling creativity to thrive in communities and supporting opportunities to explore innovative creative practice. The Programme takes place at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny until 28 October 2026.

Creativity, collaboration and community are coming together in Cashel.

Junior Le Chéile Cashel gives young people aged 14–16 the chance to explore art, design, performance, media and event production through hands-on weekly sessions. Participants will put their creativity into action by helping shape local Le Chéile Cashel events, developing everything from decorations and performances to activities and youth-led creative spaces.

Supported by Creative Ireland, the programme is part of our commitment to creating more opportunities for young people to realise their creative potential and play an active role in their communities.
