Our investment in cardiology services at Bon Secours Hospital Dublin continues to grow to keep pace with rising demand from our GP community and our expanding team of consultant cardiologists. Following the installation of our new CT scanner earlier this year, we are delighted to welcome the latest addition to our cardiology suite, the GE HealthCare Vivid Pioneer ultrasound machine. This state-of-the-art echo system brings advanced image clarity and rapid workflow automation to our team, meaning patients benefit from faster, more comfortable procedures, highly accurate first-scan diagnostics, and safer guidance during minimally invasive procedures.

We look forward to sharing more exciting developments in the coming months as we continue our investment in cardiology services for our patients, our referring GPs, and cardiologist team.

During this year’s National Palliative Care week, we focus on the importance of raising awareness about what Palliative Care is and how it can be used to plan future care needs. Palliative Care is an essential part of our practice in Bon Secours Hospital Dublin and our palliative team take a particularly holistic approach in caring for patients requiring such care.

To mark the week, our Palliative Care team organised a series of educational events for staff, patients and their families, to raise awareness and promote better understanding of palliative care. Palliative Care helps to improve and maintain quality of life for people, of any age, who are facing the challenges associated with a life-limiting illness whilst in hospital and in the community.

Project ESPWA is a volunteer-run charity based in Ireland. The name is a Haitian Creole word for "hope” and is a direct nod to the to the charity's origins when it was first formed in 2011 to send relief and medical shipments to the people of Haiti following the catastrophic 2010 earthquake. Its mission is to help people affected by emergencies and conflicts around the world by sourcing needed items, arranging shipping, and delivering humanitarian aid to communities in crisis. While the charity supports many needs globally, its current work is especially focused on helping people in Ukraine.

ESPWA does this by receiving and collecting essential resources, which are often items that are still useful but are no longer needed by the organisations that originally used them. Recently, Bon Secours Hospital Dublin donated medical supplies that were no longer required within the hospital. Rather than these items going unused, the donation helped Project ESPWA direct the resources to where they can make a real difference. This support helps ensure that humanitarian stockpiles and medical support are sustained, and that people affected by the crisis can access the supplies they need.

Rachel Stephens, Business Programme Manager at Bon Secours Hospital Dublin, recently had the opportunity to take part in the HOPE Exchange Programme. The HOPE Programme is a European healthcare exchange programme that enables people working in healthcare to learn from different health systems and share best practice.

As part of the programme, Rachel was placed in Denmark, where she visited the Danish equivalent of the Department of Health, and hospitals across two regions. One of the things that stood out most was the strong focus on collaboration, continuous improvement and using data to support better patient care. It was also a great opportunity to learn from people working in healthcare across Europe, gain different perspectives and bring back ideas that can be applied in her own work at Bon Secours Hospital Dublin.

We were delighted to recently welcome nursing students from Clarkson College, Nebraska to Bon Secours Hospital Dublin for a memorable morning of sharing experiences and learning. As a key academic partner of Dublin City University’s nursing programme, we host undergraduate and postgraduate students for clinical placements and value the opportunity to learn from other organisations and strengthen our collaboration in education and patient care.

What a night last Friday at the Morton Games. Poland's Kinga Gacka claimed victory in the Bon Secours Hospital Dublin, women's 400m, clocking 52.49 seconds to narrowly edge out Sophie Becker. Becker, the Wexford star, delivered another impressive performance to finish second in 52.65. We are so proud to be associated with the games and to support the many local and international participants.
