Last summer, Karl Hayden and Eddie McGuinness travelled to Budapest to join the banned Pride march. They stood in defiance of an authoritarian regime that tried to silence the LGBTQ+ community through bans and intimidation.

Yesterday’s election results prove that the fight for visibility and human rights is never in vain. We celebrate the courage of those who marched when it was illegal, and we welcome a new chapter for Hungary.

Solidarity knows no borders. 🇮🇪🇭🇺

Statement from Marie Sherlock TD on reports of the government seeking to close the National Gender Service Wait List : “The decision by the National Gender Service to close its waiting lists is the clearest signal yet that the current model of care has reached breaking point. If the Government allows this standoff to continue, waiting lists will grow longer and the distress experienced by vulnerable people will only deepen.
While there are issues with the current model and with the NGS, closing the wait lists will leave people with further uncertainty. The consequences are devastating. Research shows that almost one in three trans people have turned to black market medicines because they cannot adequate care. This Government has created the conditions where people feel they must self medicate. It is unacceptable and deeply damaging.
Only last week in the Dáil, Labour called for a full reset of Ireland’s model of trans healthcare. The Government did not oppose our motion. If ministers accept that change is needed, then they must follow through with action. It is not credible to acknowledge the crisis in one breath and allow the system to deteriorate further in the next.
This year marks ten years since the Gender Recognition Act 2015, landmark legislation introduced by Labour in Government. That Act affirmed the right of trans people to be recognised with dignity. The other part was access to compassionate and timely healthcare. A decade on, that promise has not been honoured. Instead, people are forced to navigate a fragmented and paternalistic model. That is not the Ireland promised in 2015.
Government must act now. A standoff will only lead to further distress and greater waiting lists.”

Cáineann LADTA+ Páirtí an Lucht Oibre, LADT+ PSDLO & Mná an Lucht Oibre Éire, sna téarmaí is láidre, an cinneadh náireach a rinne Coiste Náisiúnta Feidhmiúcháin Pháirtí an Lucht Oibre (RA) cosc a chur ar mhná trastrasinscneach freastal ar Chomhdháil Mná Pairtí an Luch Oibre sa RA. Cuirfear bac ar mhná trasinscneach a bheith i láthair sa phríomhchuid de chomhdháil Mná an Lucht Oibre (RA) i 2026 agus ar rochtain ar phríomhionad na comhdhála. Séanfaidh an toirmeasc seo cearta na mban trasinscneach a dtuairim a thabhairt faoi dhíospóireachtaí polasaí, faoi mholtaí agus faoi thoghcháin an choiste náisiúnta ban.

Leanann an cinneadh seo rialú Chúirt Uachtarach na RA maidir le sainaithint inscne agus cearta féinchinnteoireachta do dhaoine trasinscneach. Cuireann an cinneadh aiféiseach seo ó Phairtí an Lucht Oibre (RA) ceisteanna faoi bhunluachanna an pháirtí agus a dtiomantas do chearta an duine, do chomhionannas agus don fheimineachas.

Sa chomhthéacs reatha, tá an pobal trasinscneach cosúil leis an éan sa mhianach guail, a thugann rabhadh faoin tonn mhéadaitheach de reitric frith-LADTA+ atá á spreagadh ag antoiscigh i bhfad ar dheis laistigh agus lasmuigh den RA agus san Eoraip. Is fána sleamhain é seo a bhfuil an baol ann go mbainfidh sé an bonn den dul chun cinn sóisialta agus de na bunchearta daonlathacha a bhfuilimid go léir ag brath orthu. Tá sé ríthábhachtach seasamh a ghlacadh agus cur i gcoinne na gníomhaíochta éagóraí seo.

Iarraimid ar choiste náisiúnta feidhmiúcháin Pháirtí an Lucht Oibre na RA an cinneadh náireach seo a chur ar ceal agus gan mná trasinscneach a eisiamh ón bpróiseas daonlathach.

Labour LGBTQ+, SDLP LGBT+ & Labour Women Ireland condemns, in the strongest terms, the shameful decision by the UK Labour Party NEC to ban trans women from attending the Labour’s women’s (UK) Conference. Trans women will be barred from the main part of the 2026 Labour (UK) women’s conference and entrance to the main conference hall. The resulting prohibition will deny the rights of Trans women to have their say on policy debates, motions and national women’s committee elections. The decision follows on from the UK supreme court’s ruling on gender identification and the rights of self-determination for trans individuals. This regrettable decision by Labour UK calls into question the party’s fundamental values and its commitment to human rights, equality and feminism. In the current climate, the trans community is the canary in the mine for the growing wave of anti-LGBTQIAP+ rhetoric that is fuelled by far-right agitators from inside and outside of the UK and Europe. This is a slippery slope that risks undermining social progress and the fundamental democratic rights we all depend on. It’s imperative to make a stand and oppose this unjust action. We call on the UK Labour party’s national executive to reverse this shameful decision and not exclude trans women from the democratic process.

TRANS HEALTHCARE NOW 🏳️‍⚧️

Contributions from across our Labour Party TDs earlier today during the debate on our motion on transgender healthcare in Ireland.

Transgender healthcare in Ireland consistently ranks as the worst in the EU and that is a national disgrace.

We are gatekeeping and treating trans people like they do not know who they are.

We are denying transgender people a model of informed consent, as is afforded to all other Irish citizens.

We are preventing youth pathways and access to transgender healthcare.

We continue to not recognise non-binary people or the bodily autonomy of intersex people.

Trans people deserve equal access to healthcare just like all other citizens across our country.

We will always stand with the transgender, non-binary, and intersex community.
We will never be divided.
We will never scapegoat.
We will always stand united.

And we will always say that trans rights are human rights.

On December 1st we honour and remember the people we have lost, and reflect on the progress made in the fight against HIV.

Recent years have seen growth in HIV cases in and outside of the q***r community. Despite the advances in treatment and testing, we can't take for granted all the progress made. Stigma still persists and we much challenge it whenever we encounter it.

Rainbow Rose General Assembly 2025 in Dublin! 🇮🇪

Ourselves in Labour LGBTQ+ were delighted and proud to host Rainbow Rose this weekend in Dublin for their 2025 General Assembly!

We began on Friday with a short trip to Leinster House, followed by our evening panel discussion. The evening session was launched with a warm, welcome address from our Labour Party Chairperson Lisa Connell and our panelists gave detailed, nuanced looks at where Ireland currently standards following the 10 year anniversaries of advances in same-sex marriage, same-sex family recognition, and legal gender recognition, and the challenges still faced by the LGBTQ+ community, in particular, the trans community's access to healthcare.

Thank you to our panellists, Brian Sheehan, Dr. Claire O'Connell, and Jes Black from Trans Healthcare Action for attending and their contributions.

Our Saturday assembly had many spirited contributions and debates with updates from across Europe about the fights (and successes) still ongoing for true LGBTQ+ equality.

Thank you to Sara Philips for her wonderful workshop on the misinformation and misconceptions about the trans community and how better allyship can be nurtured among the wider q***r community and other allies.

Thank you to local TD and Labour Party Health Spokesperson Marie Sherlock TD for her address and talk about the work the Labour Party is doing in terms of highlighting the hardship and difficulties faced by the trans community seeking access to healthcare.

Thank you to Labour Party leader and stalwart ally of the LGBTQI+ community, Ivana Bacik for her address, recounting the progress Ireland has made and the Labour Party's role in advancing LGBTQ+ rights and highlighting the work still to be done.

Congratulations to the incoming Rainbow Rose Board, including our Labour LGBTQ+ executive board member Karl Hayden.

We hope to see and host Rainbow Rose again in Dublin for the ILGA-Europe conference in 2026 and again in the West of Ireland for EuroPride 2028!

Míle buíochas arís agus slán abhaile go léir!

This evening, Labour LGBTQ+ will host this year's Rainbow Rose General Assembly with a discussion on the 10 year anniversaries of advances in LGBTQI+ marriage, family, and identity in Ireland.

The Thirty-fourth Amendment of the Constitution (Marriage Equality) Act 2015, the Children and Family Relationships Act 2015, and the Gender Recognition Act 2015 were all seismic steps forward in the march towards equality for LGBTQI+ individuals in Ireland, but we know that we still have far to go to achieve true equality for our LGBTQI+ community.

Politics has changed rapidly in the last 10 years, both in Ireland and across Europe. We want to use this evening as an opportunity to discuss what fights remain in Ireland and across Europe and to use this evening as a chance to learn from our colleagues and comrades across Europe and beyond.

Our panel discussion will begin at 6:30 pm at the Teachers' Club, 36 Parnell Square W, Rotunda, Dublin 1, D01 T6V6 with our brilliant panelists:

- Brian Sheehan, CEO of Women for Election, former co-director of the YesEquality for the 2015 same-sex marriage referendum, and former co-chair of ILGA-Europe
- Dr. Claire O'Connell, speaking on behalf of Equality for Children and Board Member of LGBT Ireland
- Jes Black, Policy Officer with Trans Healthcare Action

We hope you can join us this evening!
