While the share of employees involuntarily working on temporary or part-time contracts has declined since 2015, rates remain high in parts of southern Europe and are increasingly concentrated in a small number of service sectors. Women and young workers are particularly affected.

Labour shortages are affecting a wide range of occupations across the EU, with consequences for businesses, public services and workers alike.

When vacancies remain unfilled, growth can slow, innovation may suffer and the quality of services can decline. In turn, existing staff may face higher workloads, increasing the risk of stress, burnout and absenteeism, further exacerbating recruitment and retention challenges.

📍 Last week, our Executive Director Ivailo Kalfin contributed to the discussion at the S&D Conference: Quality Jobs for All, which explored how European policies can help deliver better jobs and working conditions.

The event brought together policymakers, social partners and experts to discuss the future of quality jobs in Europe and the challenges facing workers in a rapidly changing labour market.

💬 Discussions focused on a range of issues shaping today's world of work, including the right to disconnect, fair teleworking arrangements, the impact of AI and algorithmic management, mental health at work, and the protection of workers in complex subcontracting chains.

Eurofound is recruiting a Research Support Officer (Contract agent, FG IV) to support one or more of its research units:
🔹Employment;
🔹Working Life;
🔹Social Policies.

The role will involve contributing to the formulation, coordination and management of European-wide studies and surveys, with a particular focus on the ongoing development and maintenance of Eurofound’s online quantitative and qualitative databases and the preparation of datasets and their secondary analyses.

A maximum of 20 candidates will be shortlisted and invited for written tests and interview with the Selection Committee.

This year’s festival theme, Dublin Is Living, celebrates the people, places, communities and cultures that shape the past, present and future of Dublin and its surrounding county. We’re proud to be part of this celebration and to share the story of Loughlinstown House with our visitors.
