President of the European Parliament, Ms Roberta Metsola in the Seanad Chamber along with the European Parliament’s Conference of Presidents. The delegation, representing the European Parliament’s political groupings, joined us for discussions on key priorities ahead of Ireland taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July. We discussed Ireland’s priorities for the Presidency, including the Good Friday Agreement and lessons on peace building and implementation.

Commencement Matters provide Senators with an opportunity to raise issues of public concern. Four matters are selected each day, with the Senator and the relevant Minister each allocated four minutes.

Today’s Commencement Matters include:

• Whether the Minister will commit to providing an additional 1,000 teaching posts for the 2026/27 school year.
• Updating Irish law to facilitate tokenisation in the Irish funds industry.
• Addressing concerns regarding inadequate services within Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNTs).
• Consideration of adding Addison’s Disease to the Long Term Illness Scheme.
