We were particularly delighted to welcome a large group of Spanish visitors who not only loved the show but enthusiastically supported our important political message and campaign.

STAND UP FOR IRISH NEUTRALITY

All opinion polls and surveys over past decades have shown a large majority support Irish Neutrality. This includes the Irish Times one in February last and subsequent polls.

We now have a situation where the Irish Government - Fine Gael and the leadership of Fianna Fáil are determined to act against the will of the Irish people and remove the triple lock mechanism, the best legal protection our neutrality enjoys.

FIANNA FÁIL to rebel on Neutrality ?

What that means for Dublin 3 :

It is interesting to read the names of FF representatives who have challenged their party leader on the removal of the Triple Lock. There are certainly some heavy hitters listed.

Included is Deputy Tom Brabazon who was elected in the Dublin Bay North constituency, which includes parts of Dublin 3. If he is genuinely committed to this stance on neutrality it is most welcome.

If that is the case, all the TD’s elected for Dublin 3 bar one are pro-neutrality and will fight to preserve the Triple-Lock. That represents 8 voices on our side.

The one exception is Naoise Ó Muirí of Fine Gael.
As it currently stands, he and his party are prepared to completely ditch Irish Neutrality against the will of the Irish people. So too is the FF leader Michael Martin, so let’s hope the party grassroots speak up and stop him in his tracks.

Meanwhile, we need to intensify our activity.

MICHAEL MARTIN HAS CHANGED HIS TUNE

Printed below are comments from Michael Martin aimed at Fine Gael when they wanted to remove the Triple Lock. This was back in 2013. Now Martin has flip-flopped and everything he said back then could be aimed directly at himself :

"With regard to the scheduled discussions on defence policy, nothing has been produced which supports the case for a new initiative in this area. The current structures have not been given time to work and they cannot be said to have failed. As has been seen in a number of recent cases, even NATO members retain the right to disagree and go their own way on many issues. Earlier this year, the Minister for Defence signalled that he would try to water down Ireland's commitment to the triple lock, which is at the core of our neutrality. He presented the idea that it was contradictory and that we were giving unsavoury countries a veto over our actions. This argument has been behind the efforts of a wing of Fine Gael to erode neutrality over the years."

Also, look at his dangerous comments about Ireland joining NATO. It seems he has caved in to the demands of the militaristic European countries and the profit driven arms industry.

Under Martin it seems Fianna Fáil are being forced to implement Fine Gael policy on neutrality. We are glad to see that so many Fianna Fáil representatives and supporters are rejecting this shift from traditional party policy.

PUNKS FOR PEACE

The latest in our series of ❤️ PEACE / HATE WAR gigs was another jammed to capacity scorcher. A big thanks to The Deviators and The Prongs, each delivering incredible sets, and thanks to everybody who came along and ensured a brilliant atmosphere.

These gigs are important not just as fund raisers but to help spread the message :

Make sure this message is repeated until the government listen. Make sure you tell your family, friends and neighbours how important this is AND get involved with your local campaign.

There was a great result this earlier this week when a number of Fianna Fáil TD’s rebelled on the issue, opposing plans to abolish the Triple Lock and demanded it be discussed properly, openly standing up to Michael Martin who was trying to railroad this through along with Fine Gael. This has resulted in the proposed legislation postponed until after the summer break. A victory that shows what we can achieve. We must keep up the pressure.
