After a 7 hour long meeting starting at 5pm and finishing just after midnight, councillors have approved a new Town Centre plan for Cherrywood.

Councillors approved the rules by which developers can apply for planning to build out Cherrywood Town Centre.

There are some good things in the new Cherrywood Town Centre plan:
- at least 50% of retail and community facilities must be delivered before developers can sell or rent the homes.
- increased height and density allowing for an extra 2,000 homes
- an extra primary school to cater for the additional homes, with local Cllr Lauren Tuite ensuring that the school will be delivered in the town centre itself
- setting the right planning framework to enable a hospital and sports arena to apply for planning.

But a lot wrong too:
Submissions made by developers that our council planners disagreed with a matter of weeks ago, were suddenly supported when the developers' demands for rule loosening came in the form of last minute votes from FG&FF. Opposition councillors tried to stop most of these, but with the support of some Independents, FG&FF were able to meet the developers' demands.

Do you have any questions for the owners of this bridge?
The owners of the Leopardstown M50 overbridge, Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) will meet local councillors in the coming weeks to discuss the bridge and how to open it properly. I've been trying to arrange this meeting for close on a year now and it's very important that HRI can hear directly from all your local representatives how important it is for residents.

I will be asking HRI for more urgency in opening up this bridge properly and safely for people to use it is as a walking/cycling shortcut between Leopardstown Valley and Westwood/the racecourse/South County Business Park.

The council are ready to step in and do any works necessary, but cannot do this on land belonging to another public body without agreement.

If you'd like to share anything privately with me, I'm available at 0876065648 / [email protected]
