Some of the team took the trip today over to visit Kilkeel RNLI's base in Kilkeel harbour for their open day, in which they got a chance to catch up with their members and have a look around their new Shannon Class Lifeboat.

Also in attendance was Mourne Mountain Rescue Team, the PSNI, Kilkeel coastguard and Clogherhead RNLI

Thanks again to the team in Kilkeel for inviting us to their open day, it was great seeing everyone and having a look around.

The team had the pleasure on Saturday to visit Cooley Kickhams 's National Play Day, in which we got the opportunity to show kids and perents around our vehicles and equipment, while explaining the roles and responsibilities of the Coast Guard and emphasising the importance of water safety, especially with the warmer weather we have been having.

If you are planning on taking to the beaches or going afloat in the next few weeks, it is important to remember the following:

• Swim at lifeguard manned areas, between the red and yellow flags
• Stay within sight of the shore line, while also never leaving children unsupervised near or in the water
• Never use inflatables on sea, rivers or lakes
• Always wear a lifejacket on or near the water
• Never consume alcohol before entering the water or going near the water
• Ensure the weather and tides or suitable for your day out
• Inform someone of your plans and when you will return

Greenore Coast Guard were delighted to attend the Emergency services day in Skypark in Carlingford on Saturday afternoon.

We got to view a brilliant demonstration by the local Fire Brigade and the Ambulance Service, in which they simulated removing a cars roof after a fake RTC and extracted a mannequin casualty from inside.

Also in attendance was An Garda Siochana,
The Dundalk Sub Aqua, The Irish Red Cross, Blood Bike Service and The Civil Defense.

The team in Greenore had a busy month and a half, with various different calls, ranging from assisting broken down vessels, vessels taking on water, searches for missing persons and assisting the ambulance service.

We also assisted Kilkeel RNLI on their first response in their new Shannon Class lifeboat, in assisting a boat that had taken on water in Carlingford Lough. We wish Kilkeel RNLI the absolute best of luck with their new boat and look forward to working along side them in the future.

As the small bit of good weather comes in, it is important to remember to plan ahead when going on the water.
Always:

Wear a lifejacket

Have some means of communication, ie. Mobile Phone and VHF radio

Tell someone your plans before going afloat, ie. When you will return and where you are going.

Always make note of the current and incoming weather and make sure it is suitable for the craft you are using.

A very happy and safe Easter weekend from all at Greenore Coast Guard.

With hopefully some good weather over the weekend, it is important to remember to respect the water and be prepared before heading out.

Some important points to remember are:

1. Ensure weather conditions are suitable for your trip.
2. Tell someone what your plans and intentions are, eg. What is your plan on the water, how should someone contact you in case of emergency and when do you intend to return ashore.
3. Always wear a lifejacket on or near the water.
4. Ensure you bring some means of communication, such as a VHF radio or a mobile phone.

Also a small reminder that we are looking for new volunteers to join the team here in Greenore.

Today we remember Ciarán, Dara, Paul and Mark and pray for their family, friends and colleagues on the 9th anniversary of Rescue 116
