Under the community climate action programme, I’m delighted to announce Blackrock and Haggardstown community centre got just over €50,000 of a grant.. as did other amounts to Dromiskin tidy towns and Kilkerly and Muthevnamore..delighted with this and it will certainly go into very valuable projects.

Thanks to the Sunday Independent for covering this story from our village of Blackrock.
Thanks also to Brian and Hermione for explaining the water quality issue so well.
We must keep the fight going to improve our seaside waterways and improve and speed up the funding to sort out our sewage problem once and for all.
In a week when blue flag beaches were announced all over Ireland, wouldn’t it be a wonderful achievement to one day have an official bathing beach in Blackrock and a blue flag flying.
That is our goal in the community forum and throughout our village and town.

I believe the mobility hubs are great idea and very suitable from a sustainability point of view but very careful consideration was made prior to the proposal. Blackrock is being over built and overcrowded with not enough thought put into parking, open space and the broader infrastructural needs and solutions. The upper car park is an extremely busy space and two charging points exist there already.
With a hub being passed on the main st and another at the community centre and at Sextons, I felt with the amount of concern from the business community in relation to the upper centra car park, a more suitable location could be allocated in phase two of this scheme.
St Furseys terrace also was certainly not suitable with most residents against it, so I’m happy with the outcome of the decisions made at the municipal meeting this week.

Dundalk councillors voted to remove two planned sites in Blackrock after a lengthy debate at May Municipal District meeting.

14/05/2026

The submission by Finbarr and the residents was exceptional and it was good to see it not included now in the list of hubs that got passed.
I have spoken at length for the last number of years about the need to leave existing green open spaces for the people of our communities alone. God knows we have little space already.
And it’s up to the council to find alternative locations for these hubs that did not get through the process.
Well done to all involved.

Very good progress now on the track. And you can clearly see the long jump and shot putt also in these photos.
It’s a long time coming but it will be so worth it when opened.
Once opened, the concentration will then go on the floodlights so this arena can be used all winter long.
Thanks to the team in Louth County Council for driving this on also.
And fingers crossed the weather stays dry.

Last night at the Dundalk municipal meeting, I stressed the need to remove some locations on the list of mobility hubs and the site at st Furseys terrace and in front of centra were removed from the list. There are 3 other sites in blackrock and as space is off a premium, it just didn’t make sense. We can look at further sites in stage 2 of the process.
Listen to the video.
