‘Amber Thursday’ Campaign Urges Public to Plan Ahead, Stay Alert and Stay Safe
Louth County Council, in partnership with local emergency services including the Fire and Rescue Service, An Garda Síochána, and the Civil Defence, is asking people to put safety first this June Bank Holiday weekend.
This message comes as part of Amber Thursday, a joint campaign to highlight fire, road and water safety before one of the busiest weekends of the year.
The June Bank Holiday marks the start of summer for many people. Roads become busier, and more people head to beaches, parks and public spaces. Whether you are travelling, using a barbeque, swimming, hiking or going camping, it is important to think about safety and avoid unnecessary risks.

🚒 Huge congratulations to our newest full-time firefighters! 👨‍🚒👏
Over the last 3 months, ran an intensive full-time firefighters course in proud collaboration with 🤝. It’s been a demanding, rigorous, but incredibly rewarding journey.
A massive shoutout to our own FF Wayne Hurley, FF Leigh Ross, FF Gareth Floyd and FF Uli Keller for successfully completing the course. We are incredibly proud of your hard work, resilience, and dedication! 💪🔥
This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without a huge team effort. A special thank you to the crews and the all Louth team of instructors who worked long days and nights to help run this demanding training program. Most importantly, a massive thank you to the families for their unwavering patience and support over the past few months. ❤️
Congratulations again, lads. Wishing you all a safe and successful career ahead! 🚒 👨‍🚒💪🇮🇪

🚨 Age Friendly Louth – Road & Community Safety Event 🚨

A huge thank you to Age Friendly Louth for hosting their first community event of 2026 today in Drogheda. The event responded to concerns raised by the Older People’s Council following several tragic road deaths in Co. Louth last year.
Louth Fire & Rescue Service was delighted to deliver a Fire Safety in the Home presentation, focusing on simple, practical steps older people can take to stay safe.
🔥 Checking smoke alarms
🔥 Safe use of heaters & electrics
🔥 Planning escape routes
🔥 Preventing kitchen fires
🔥 Carbon monoxide awareness

A special word of thanks to our Drogheda Retained Firefighters, who supported the event and engaged with attendees throughout the morning. 👨‍🚒👏Together, we’re working to support safer communities across Louth. 💙
