If you lose your Irish passport or have it stolen while abroad, you must do 2 things immediately.

1️⃣ Make a police report 👮‍♀️

You must contact the local police and request a written statement that you’ve reported the loss. The Passport Service will only give you a new travel document if you have a police report.

2️⃣ Contact your Irish embassy or consulate ☘️

You must contact your nearest Irish embassy or consulate. They may be able to give you:

🧑 Advice and assistance in applying for a new passport
📄 An emergency travel document that will get you home

If you’re in a country without Irish representation, you should contact an embassy or consulate of another EU member state. They may issue you with an EU Emergency Travel Document (ETD).

🛌 At 1am, on Sunday 29 March 2026, the time on the clock changes to 2am. This means you’ve one less hour in bed, but an extra hour of brightness in the evening.

✅️ IRISH PASSPORT ADVICE...changes 🇮🇪

As of December 2025, the Passport Office in Dublin have changed the process of applying for a new passport via the ‘paper’ method.

❗️They are no longer accepting the green APS1/APS2 passport forms❗️

To use a paper application for renewal, contact the Passport Assist Service by phone on 01 613 1795.

The Passport Office team will generate a unique paper application with your details pre-filled and post it to you for signing & witnessing.

You check the details on the application form, gather your supporting documentation and passport photos and bring them to your local Post Office.

Your Post Office will then take payment and submit your application using the Passport postal service.

You can still apply to renew your passport online and person, through the Passport Office's Urgent Appointment Service.
