Huge congratulations to the Waterford Fire Service Extrication team, who came away from Hackettown yesterday with an incredible second place in the National Extrication Finals🥈👏🏻💪🏻

This is a massive achievement for a team who only got together back in February and was competing in their first competition.👊🏻🚒

The two competition scenarios were 25 minutes long, and after the first run the team took on board the positive feedback from the assessors, regrouped and came back after lunch determined to improve. They absolutely delivered 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻completing their second scenario with both casualties safely extricated under 18 minutes.

The dedication, teamwork, and hard work shown by everyone involved truly paid off👌🏻👏🏻

🚒 Best of luck to the Waterford Fire Service Extrication team competing this Saturday in Hackettown Fire Service training center, at the National Extrication Challenge, hosted by Rescue Org Ireland.

The lads have been training since February and are buzzing to take part in their first competition. The team is made up of Firefighters from Dungarvan,Waterford city, cappoquin, and Lismore Fire Services.

The challenge consists of two 25- minute scenarios, where teams must extricate casualties from vehicles in complex situations, with a strong focus on casualty care.

Recently, members of Dungarvan’s Fire services Swift Water Rescue technicians were out on a training exercise in Dungarvan harbour, honing their paddling techniques using the rescue sled.

The sled is a highly effective piece of equipment, and is invaluable During water rescue operations.🚒🏊‍♂️

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Carriglea services transition to work group to the station.

They got to see our fire appliances , learned about the PPE we use, and heard about the various different incidents we attend. The highlight for many was getting hands on with our hose reels 💦 🚒.

It was a fantastic few hours with plenty of smiles and great engagement from everyone involved 🚒👏🏻😀

Happy new year from everyone at Dungarvan Fire and Rescue Service🚒

Next Thursday the 8th of January, we will be holding an open evening from 18.30 - 20.30 for anyone who has applied for a position with Dungarvan Fire Service, or who is still considering applying.

With the new closing date of the 15th of January there is still time to submit an application. This open evening is a great opportunity to meet the crew,see the equipment,learn about the types of incidents we respond to, and have a cup of tea and a chat in a relaxed setting.

Dungarvan Fire Service will be present at the Shopping center tomorrow, from 12.00pm to 5.00pm. Members of the public are invited to meet our team,learn about the role of a retained firefighter, and gain insight into the commitment and responsibilities involved. Our firefighters will be available to answer any questions you may have regarding recruitment and service.

We also wish to take this opportunity to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the late John Shanahan, who recently passed away. John served with distinction as Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Waterford County Fire Service and will be remembered for his dedication and contribution to public safety.
