A claim that north Offaly is being overrrun by wind farms has been made this week with one local councillor declaring its “time to stand up and say enough is enough.”

It was with great sadness this morning that I learned of the passing of former Councillor Noel Bourke.

Noel served as a Fianna Fáil Councillor in the Edenderry Municipal District from 1991 to 2019. Throughout his many years of public service, he was an excellent councillor ,deeply committed to his community, always willing to listen, and dedicated to helping resolve issues for the people he represented. His legacy will live on in many projects throughout the area.

He was an inspiration to younger councillors and a wonderful example of what true public service should be. I was fortunate to have his support last year during local and the general elections.

My deepest sympathies to his wife Carmel, his family, and his many friends.
May Noel rest in peace.

This week I met up with Walsh Island Development Group to discuss various issues around the village from Bins, Street lighting and tackling derelict sites in the village, I look forward to raising the area engineer to discuss the issues on behalf of the residents in Walsh Island. Thanks to my colleague Cllr. Oliver Bryant who joined us to discuss the possibility of new litter bins.

If your community group would like to meet up to discuss issues in your area or would like help with a grant application please get in touch I’d be happy to help.

North Offaly has been let down by Bord na Móna in an astronomical manner. These figures are fantastic but our job creation, employment and landscape has been decimated. Offaly has done the heavy lifting in terms of renewable energy and got pittance in return. As a councillor, I won't be happy until Bord na Móna gives back a fraction of the land it took from Offaly or bought for pittance, and allow us the chance to generate out own energy income and ultimately create jobs. Or a fraction of the shares. As was mentioned before by someone wiser than me, Brian Flynn, Window Boxes and Jerseys are great but soon we won't have anyone to wear the Jerseys. I want more for our County.

Bord na Móna has invested over half a million euro in North Offaly communities throughout 2024.

Still time to be in with a chance to win some fantastic prizes.
