Today is International Dawn Chorus Day. You dont have to be up at the crack of dawn to listen or watch the abundance of bird life on our wetlands. While the chorus is the announcement of the dawn entering daybreak it can be experienced any day during the summer bird breeding season.

Certain species may be seen before you hear them or may not hear them at all eg Bullfinch, moorhen, whitethroat, kingfisher, mallard & grey Heron to mention a few. Just bear that in mind if you are using the Merlin APP to identify bird song ⚠️ Look πŸ‘€ and listen πŸ‘‚ is best survey practice.

While others may be heard but not seen eg Water Rail, cuckoo, pheasant, jay, Magpie, chiffchaff, willow Warbler, skylark, little grebe.

A total of 27 bird species were sighted or heard on our wetlands today.

Hope you manage to get out to walk our wetlands during the summer period.

Listen carefully to the humming of electricity being generated from the sunshine!

The wet areas under the solar panels are potentially great areas for nesting resident Lapwing if they remain wet under foot until June. The cover of the panels will also provide cover from aerial predators e.g. Buzzard, Grey Hooded Crows, Magpie and Ravens. We live in hope of our resident Lapwings producing offspring right through to adulthood πŸ™ πŸ™Œ 🐦
