World Elder Abuse Day 2026
Sergeant Burke was delighted to be asked to speak to residents of Ennistymon Hospital today about safeguarding issues and types of elder abuse. There are different types of abuse of an older person. They may be carried out deliberately, or through negligence (not doing what it is your duty to do) or ignorance (not knowing something you should know). An older person may experience more than one form of abuse at any given time.
An Garda Siochana's advice is to report suspected Elderly Abuse to your local Garda station as soon as possible.
"To care for those who once cared for us is one of the highest honours"

💜☕ What a lovely morning at our Go Purple Day Coffee Morning in Kilrush Garda Station! ☕💜

Go Purple Day is an initiative led by An Garda Síochána with the support of domestic abuse services across Ireland. It aims to raise awareness about the supports and services available to people who experience domestic abuse.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, wore purple, enjoyed a cuppa, and helped support such an important cause. The morning was filled with great chats, delicious treats, and wonderful community spirit.

A special mention to Clan Clare Local Area Network (CLAN) is an interagency network working together to support those impacted by domestic violence and coercive control.

We really appreciate all the support shown today. 💜
