Kilrush Library is hosting a six-week series of free smartphone classes, starting on Thursday 10 September, from 11.00am to 12.30pm, and continuing every Thursday for the following five weeks. Bring your smartphone or other digital device with you.

We're delighted to feature Keelan's Library Shelf Takeover as part of Summer Stars at Edna O'Brien Library.
Keelan's chosen reads included Cat Kid Comic Club, Big Nate, Cactus Kid, and Bunny vs Monkey, highlighting some of his favourite funny and action-packed books. Why not check out his recommendations on your next visit to the library?


His brother, Oisín, also completed a shelf takeover earlier this summer. Oisín thoughtfully arranged his recommendations into sections such as Graphic Novels, All About Ireland, Little People BIG DREAMS, and Fascinating Facts, helping fellow readers find their next great read. Local Studies and Archives hosted two events for Heritage Week 2026:

On Tuesday 18 August, Dr. Paul O Brien, Assistant Professor MIC Limerick, gave a talk on the Glynn Family, merchants in Kilrush for over 200 years, and their extensive archive, which is held in Clare Local Studies and Archives. This talk coincided with the opening of an exhibition on the Glynn’s in the Local Studies and Archives area in the De Valera Library.

On Saturday 22 August, a history of Cusack Park Ennis by Edward O’Loghlen was launched.

The attached picture is of the bust of that famous Clare prospector Paddy Hannon wearing his Heritage Week cap!

National Heritage Week at Sixmilebridge Library

Friday 21 August
Sixmilebridge Library had a wonderful morning with Michael Foudy as he demonstrated traditional weaving techniques used in basket making and the St. Brigid's cross. He also demonstrated how to make a Súgàn rope. These ropes were used to secure haystack, thatched roofs, the tops of stools or tied livestock at local fairs. This workshop was funded by Heritage Ireland.

A talk presented by Archeologist Jake Justice exploring the ancient parishes of Cill Fionnachta & Cill Mhuire na nGall was enjoyed by all on Wednesday 19 August.

A wonderful addition to Ennistymon Library 📚
We are delighted to receive a donation of ‘Searching for a Better Life’ from Ross Wall of Hamilton, New Zealand. Ross has carried out extensive research into his family history, documenting his ancestors’ journey from Galway to Ennistymon and, ultimately, to New Zealand — tracing their story as far back as 1809.

We are very grateful to Ross for sharing this fascinating piece of local and family history with our community. A wonderful record of the journeys that connected Ennistymon to the wider world. 🌍📖
