A very special well done to all the children who recently performed at the Bright Notes End of Term Concert!

Bright Notes is a Music Generation initiative that supports children to learn music, build confidence and enjoy being creative together. Through the BRIDGE Project, Galway City Partnership was proud to support access to music classes for children living in IPAS centres, some of whom had the opportunity to perform as part of the concert.

It was fantastic to see the children take part, share what they have been learning and celebrate music alongside other young performers.

Well done to everyone involved, you were brilliant!

Earlier this month we marked Go Purple Day 2026 with Pavee Beoirs Women's Group in Ballybane.

GCP supported the group, led by Kathleen Donovan, Domestic Violence Awareness Worker with Galway Traveller Movement, to host an important awareness event to mark the day.

The event welcomed Garda Kenneth Doyle, who spoke about domestic violence in Ireland, including current statistics, warning signs to look out for, the process of reporting incidents, and how An Garda Síochána works alongside Tusla and COPE Galway to support victims and families experiencing abuse.

The evening created a valuable space for information sharing, discussion, and community solidarity, while highlighting the importance of speaking out against domestic abuse and ensuring people know where support is available.

Galway City Partnership is a member of the Community Response to Domestic Abuse Western Region Network and is committed to supporting initiatives that promote safety, awareness, and access to supports for those experiencing domestic violence.

The Department of Education and Youth has launched a national consultation to help shape the future of wellbeing in Irish schools up to 2030 and beyond.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents, guardians, school staff, children and young people are all invited to take part.

📚 The consultation is looking at important questions including:
• how schools support children’s emotional wellbeing
• creating a sense of belonging in school communities
• positive relationships and school culture
• supporting confidence, resilience and inclusion
• what wellbeing support should look like in the future

💬 The Department says children and young people learn more effectively when they feel safe, supported and connected in school — and this consultation will help inform the next national Wellbeing in Education policy.

📝 There are two ways to take part:
• complete the online survey
• make a written submission as an individual or organisation

⏳ The consultation is open until 2 June 2026.

Staff attended a wonderfully engaging Cultural Competency training session yesterday with AkiDwA - Akina Dada Wa Africa CEO, Dr. Salome Mbugua at Galway Chamber. Dr. Salome created space for some great discussions, moments for us to reflect on our own biases and explored ways we can continue to be inclusive of everyone in our work.

This training was organised by our internal Anti-Racism Coordinator and supporting committee and is one of four sessions to be rolled out this year.

On 5th May, participants in the BRIDGE Project’s Irish Language and Culture classes took part in a walking tour of Galway City, deepening their understanding of Ireland’s linguistic and cultural heritage in a real-world setting. A highlight of the tour was meeting a group of Irish speakers along the route, creating an authentic opportunity for cultural exchange, conversation and connection!
