❌Meet Me Monday – Galway Area❌

Welcome back to another Monday where we introduce you to one of our amazing volunteers from the Galway branch of the Irish Red Cross who help support our community.

This week we have a very special volunteer (my personal favourite), we’re meeting:

Bonnie!!!!🐾🐾

Bonnie is our Galway Area Irish Red Cross ambassador doggo.

Bonnie was out on our flag day in the streets of Galway city, meeting the people and discovering all the local talents!!

Thank you to all who donated and came to see us!

Today NAS is proud to celebrate International Nurses Day.

The theme this year is 'Our Nurses, Our Future', which highlights the importance and impact of nursing in the workforce.

In NAS, our nurses practise across a range of areas including Infection Prevention and Control, Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Registry, AED Registry, the NEOC Clinical Hub, Occupational Health, Quality and Patient Safety and our Critical Care and Retrieval Service.

We thank all of our nurses and wish all a very happy International Nurses Day!

Up before sunrise for Darkness Into Light — a powerful walk reminding us that even the darkest nights end with light.

Anis, Katie and Kerry were in Carraroe and Tommy, Peter, Dara and Komal were in Salthill to support and stand for hope, connection, and mental health awareness. 💛

Training your child in first aid and rescue skills is one of the most valuable gifts you can give them. ⛑️

It teaches responsibility, confidence, and the ability to stay calm in emergencies.

🚸Children who learn basic first aid understand how to react when someone is injured, how to call for help, and how to provide simple but potentially life-saving assistance before professionals arrive.

❌If you want to get your child involved, please DM us on here or email [email protected]

❌Meet Me Monday – Galway Area❌

Welcome back to another Monday where we introduce you to one of our amazing volunteers from the Galway branch of the Irish Red Cross who help support our community.

This week we’re meeting:

Peter Navan

🚑 Role in the Galway Branch:

"Area Training Officer"

"Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)"

📍 From:

"Dublin, born and bred in Walkinstown but my family hail from Galway City, Howth in Dublin and Drumlish in County Leitrim"

📚 Occupation :

"Retired District Officer, Dublin Fire Brigade"

⏳ How long have you been volunteering?

" I have been volunteering with The Irish Red Cross for 6 years now although I have been volunteering in general since I was 16"

❤️ Why did you join the Irish Red Cross?

"I was coming up to my retirement, it was towards the end of the Covid 19 Pandemic and the Irish Red Cross put out an appeal for members, I signed up with a Dublin branch and then I moved to Galway City where I really found my tribe."

🏅 Favourite volunteering moment:

"I really enjoy events that bring the community together such as the Darkness into Light, the Fields of Athenry 10k or the many Galway City events, my proudest moment was with a crew providing First Aid Cover for an event with our then President of Ireland, Michael D Highins present. The President joined us for a photograph. Our crew had French, Indian a d Irish people on it which really reflects this City and our Branch membership."

🎙️What three words describe volunteering with the Irish Red Cross?

"Never Ending Learning"

🔹 What advice would you give someone thinking about volunteering?

"What's stopping you, come along and give it a go."

A big thank you to Peter for volunteering in the Irish Red Cross and especially the Galway Area!⭐️

⏳ How long have you been volunteering?

"It’s been 16 years now"

❤️ Why did you join the Irish Red Cross?

"At 10 years old I watched Casualty with my parents, the next day I was doing compressions on a teddy bear. So my mam put me into the Claremorris Red Cross"

🎙️What three words describe volunteering with the Irish Red Cross?

"Opportunity, Humanity, Caring"

🔹 What advice would you give someone thinking about volunteering?

"The Red Cross is open to people from all backgrounds, offering an inclusive environment where anyone can get involved. By joining, you can develop valuable lifesaving skills, just as I have, that not only build confidence but also make a real difference in emergencies. Being on duty is also a great way to connect with and better understand your local community. For those who are passionate, the experience and training gained through the Red Cross can even lead to a meaningful career path in healthcare, emergency response, or humanitarian work."

A big thank you to Ronan for volunteering in the Irish Red Cross and especially the Galway Area!⭐️
