Bearna National School is now part of the Safe Routes to School programme.

Surveys and consultations have taken place, and we're awaiting the report from . The goal is to improve safety for children walking and cycling to school, with works hopefully progressing later this year.

Parents, students and residents have played an important role in shaping this process.

Progress is being made on the proposed bus shelter in Bearna, which is planned for outside Boyle Sports.

The proposal has completed public consultation and is now being reviewed by Galway County Council.

I want to see funding fully utilised this year so that communities like Bearna get the public transport infrastructure they deserve.

In 2022, Galway County Council's Metropolitan Area Strategic Plan supported the development of a standalone tertiary wastewater treatment plant for Bearna.

Having reviewed the latest draft wastewater strategy, that proposal no longer appears to be included. Instead, the draft suggests Bearna will continue to be served by the Mutton Island treatment facility, which the strategy indicates could exceed capacity by around 40% by 2040.

I've asked Uisce Éireann and Galway County Council for clarity on this issue. If a standalone facility is no longer being proposed, we need assurances that the necessary infrastructure upgrades will be delivered to support both existing residents and future growth in Bearna.

This is an issue I will continue to raise and pursue on behalf of the local community.

A local resident raised concerns about a fault in the wastewater network. I contacted Uisce Éireann immediately and crews were on site the following morning. I've requested full details on what caused the issue and what steps will be taken to prevent it happening again.

If you notice local infrastructure problems, please continue to report them.

A major safety boost is on the way for Oughterard 🌉
Following confirmation from Galway County Council, construction of the new footbridge will begin in April 2027 and be completed by autumn 2027 ✅
Key early works are already done and funding is in place to keep the project moving forward 💶
This will make a real difference for local families, walkers and schoolchildren with a safer crossing every day 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Good morning everyone.

I’m in Bearna today for my regular constituency clinic, held on the second Monday of every month. If you would like to discuss a personal, local or national issue, please feel free to drop by. Thank you to everyone who has already booked an appointment this morning. I look forward to meeting with you.

I’m also delighted to welcome the news announced this morning by my ministerial colleague, Minister O’Brien, confirming the approval of the long-awaited CIÉ pension increase for pensioners. This is a matter I raised in the Dáil and have been actively pursuing with the Minister for some time.

For many pensioners who have not seen an increase since 2008, this approval will provide much-needed relief. I warmly welcome this decision and thank Minister O’Brien for his work in bringing it to fruition.
