Last 3 days of Heritage week😁

A slight change to our opening times for Saturday. The plan was to open at 12 noon on Saturday but due to circumstances beyond our control it will be 2pm before we swing open the door. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

It's been 3 years, 2 months and 2 weeks since my last post. I'm not even sure anyone will see this.😁 hopefully loads will.

Anyways because Heritage Week starts tomorrow, Gowran House Social History museum is open to the public on the following days.

Sat 16th 12pm to 6pm
Sun 17th 12pm till 6pm

Thurs 21st 2pm to 6pm
Fri 22nd 2pm to 6pm

Sat 23rd 12pm to 6pm
Sun 25th 12pm to 6pm

If you like all things Irish ephemera and vernacular then this is the place to visit😁

I also love to talk all about the history of Gowran and Gowran House. There is loads to tell😁

Apologies to everyone who is getting messages from Gowran House Instagram account, I've been hacked and have no access to it at the moment. I only discovered this week that I still have my Facebook account so will be posting here only for the time being. The museum is open today from 2pm to 5pm.

Georgian wrought iron spiral candle holder or also know as a courting candle in colonial America. In
the 1600's to the 1800's, courting candles were used by the man of the home to set boundaries for his daughter. When the daughter's suitor came calling, the father lit the candle in a sitting room where the couple conversed. When the candles burnt to the metal at the top of the candle holder, it was time for the suitor to promptly leave. Obviously if the father of the house was comfortable or uncomfortable with the suitor he could change the length of the candle accordingly 😉

We are open today from 2pm to 5pm, we are just 12mins from Kilkenny city in the village of Gowran. The grounds of St. Mary's is open to the public all year round and hopefully this year we see Gerry back giving tours😊🙏

Clover Meats Ltd was a big employer in Waterford and South Kilkenny, opening a factory in Ferrybank Waterford during the 1920s.

Production of the "Erinox" cubes began in 1937 and was often used as a substitute for tea during the emergency. The company expanded in the 1940s taking over plants in Limerick and Wexford and continued to prosper over the next 30yrs. Unfortunately problems in the 1980s saw Clover Meats close in November 1984.

We are open today till 5pm if your looking for something to do in out of the cold😊
