Another Kilcormac photo probably from the same time. This is in colour and appeared in a BnM publication called 'The Moving Bog', this was published around 1970. Again this is scanned from the publication. There is also a brief view of Kilcormac in a publicity film called Progress Reported which was made by BnM in 1961/62. This is available to view on our heartland website, www.heartland.ie, multimedia, video.

Park Lotto Cancellation info;

The Park Lotto will not be held from the 20th of March to the 10th of April due to the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID 19) and the handling of Money.

We hope to resume the Lotto on the 17th of April.

Any monies that are already taken in for lotto for the 20th of March, 27th of March, 3rd of April and 10th of April will be transferred to the next month starting from the 17th of April.

Please stay safe through these testing times and follow the advice of the HSE and Government.

History of the park

St Cormac’s Park, built by Bord na Móna in 1950, is considered a unique feature in the town of Kilcormac, Co. Offaly. Well maintained and with wide, open spaces, the attractive estate is a source of pride and interest for the local community. This is also an indication of the strong link between the community and the nearby boglands. It has a total of 104 houses and is one of the village schemes administered by the Government to Bord Na Móna in the 1950s.

Bord na Móna built 630 houses in the various village schemes, ranging from 156 in Coill Dubh to 8 in Ballivor, Co. Meath. Other village schemes like St Cormac’s Park include Lanesboro, Cloontuskert, and Coill Dubh, Newbridge and Crossmolina.

Laid out in semi-circular curved terraces, the houses of St Cormac’s Park overlook significant open areas that are unique to this development and indeed, Kilcormac. These spaces are locally significant and seen as an important asset to the community.
