The Kilkenny Local Economic and Community Plan 2016-2021 (LECP) was launched on the 12th February in the Rivercourt Hotel . The plan was developed to ensure that “Kilkenny is a great place to live, work and play; offering its citizens dignity, security and the capacity to participate to their maximum potential”

The LECP provides a road map for the development of County Kilkenny to 2021. One of the main objectives of the LECP is to ensure the effective co-ordination of publicly funded programmes. As a statutory plan, the LECP will provide a blueprint for local and community development funding invested in County Kilkenny over the next 6 years. This includes programmes such as the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme, or SICAP, and the LEADER rural development programme.

How would your community organisation / group like to see €7.7 million LEADER funds spent in Kilkenny over the next 5 years?

Kilkenny Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) is undertaking the preparation of a Local Development Strategy (LDS) for the next LEADER Programme in Co Kilkenny.

The LEADER Rural Development Programme is jointly funded by the EU and the Irish Government, and approximately €7.7 Million has been ring-fenced for County Kilkenny under the next Programme, which will run until 2020.

The main focus of the next LEADER Programme will be on promoting social inclusion, poverty reduction and economic development in rural areas. The Local Development Strategy will outline the key objectives and actions, and essentially sets out how the LCDC considers this funding should be invested in the County over the next 5 years.

It is important that your community organisation or group has the opportunity to input into this strategy. We encourage you to meet with your group and collectively complete the questionnaire at

no later than Friday October 30th.
