The EU LEADER fund is accessible to communities, organisations, and enterprises.
Rothe House & Garden applied to us for funding for a project to improve public access to the Kilkenny Archaeological Society collection, archive and research library.
We're delighted to say they have been successfull and we have signed the contracts.

The table is set for Distillation 🌿

Starting tomorrow at Rothe House, step into an intimate, multi-sensory journey through the Irish bog landscape with multidisciplinary performance maker Luke Casserly.

Seated around a table filled with peat, twigs and moss, audiences are invited to experience the textures and scents of the bog up close – including a unique fragrance created with renowned perfume maker Joan Woods.

Inspired by Casserly's childhood growing up beside a bog in Co. Longford and the end of Ireland's peat harvesting industry, Distillation explores our connection to place and the tensions between environmental recovery and economic decline.

🔨Heritage Week 2026 at Rothe House ⚒

Join us on Saturday, August 15th, for a special Restoration Tour of Rothe House & Garden.

Walk through the historic, 16th-century townhouse - unique in Ireland - and learn how it was rescued from dereliction and possible destruction to become the landmark that it is today.

As part of the tour, we will be joined by some of those who have been involved in various aspects of its restoration, from the 1960s to the 2000s.

Advanced booking is necessary and spaces are limited.

🏰Kilkenny Tourism Trail for Kids!👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Rothe House & Garden is delighted to have been included as part of the 'KCLR Tourism Trail Kids' Passport'!

This initiative has been developed in conjunction with Visit Kilkenny and with Carlow Tourism as well.

Families with children are being encouraged to visit some of the amazing sites and activities on their own doorsteps this summer and features six stops in each county!

For Kilkenny, Rothe House is in great company alongside Jurassic Newpark , Woodstock Gardens , Medieval Mile Museum , BoatTrips.ie , and Lacken Pitch and Putt!

If you get a stamp from all the 12 stops in Carlow and Kilkenny, you can pick up an exclusive KCLR Kids' T-Shirt!

Historic American flag going on temporary display this week!

As the USA celebrates 250 years, Rothe House will be displaying the historic Catalpa flag this Friday and Saturday!

This flag was on the ship that helped six Fenian prisoners escape from Fremantle Prison in Australia 150 years ago - in April of 1876.

This July 3rd and 4th, included as part of your standard tour ticket, visitors will get to view this flag, learn all about the daring escape it was involved in, and the interesting story of how it came to be in Kilkenny!

Rothe House & Garden is open to admissions from 10am to 5pm.
