A very special arrival at Muckross Traditional Farms this week💚

Connemara mare Park Terra Nova and her foal, Park Paschalina, have arrived safely from Connemara National Park and are settling in well to their new surroundings.

Park Paschalina carries a name with a wonderful connection to the history of the Connemara Pony. She is named in honour of Pascal Scanlon, the man who brought her great-great-great-grandmother to Connemara National Park in 1980.

We look forward to introducing visitors to these beautiful additions to the Farms and sharing their story in the months ahead.

Muckross House Research Library is currently undertaking an important conservation project as part of our ongoing commitment to Collections Care at Muckross House.

Two of our paintings have recently been removed for cleaning and conservation. They include a portrait of Jane Herbert, Countess of Bantry (d. 1898), and a painting of McCarthy’s Castle by Alexander Williams.

The paintings were removed by Library staff member Aoife O’Sullivan and Paul Curtis of Muckross Conservation Bindery and transported to County Monaghan. There they were entrusted to the care of fine art conservator Siobhan Conyngham, who will carry out the remedial work.

While these important works undergo conservation, visitors to Muckross House will continue to enjoy facsimile versions displayed in their place, allowing the experience and visual story of the House to remain uninterrupted.

This project reflects our ongoing dedication to preserving and protecting the rich heritage and collections of Muckross House for future generations.
